Hue is fighting for tourists: lack of investment is slowing down the beach dream!

In early summer 2025, the beaches of Thuan An in Hue emerged as a popular destination for tourists, particularly those who came to swim and enjoy fresh seafood. Despite this popularity, the willingness of visitors from Hue to spend is low, at an average of around VND 2 million per person, which is considered worrying by experts. Ms Bui Mai Chi, a tourist, expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of investment in beach facilities in the area. These critical voices illustrate the need for a fundamental upgrade of the tourism infrastructure.

In this regard, Mr. Dinh Manh Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association, highlighted the urgency of providing first-class services and quality investors to attract discerning guests. However, aside from the beauty of the scenery, Hue lags behind other Vietnamese cities as only 24 of the 887 accommodation establishments in the city are rated 3-5 stars, with a total of 3,424 rooms. The city also has no high-class international hotel brands, which is in contrast to the neighboring cities of Da Nang and Quang Nam.

Hue's infrastructure in focus

Tourists' continued preference to stay in Da Nang and Hoi An despite visiting Hue highlights the challenges the city faces. The local government has already taken measures to attract investment in the tourism sector. This includes a decision to support investments, which has allowed strategic investors such as Laguna Lang Co and VinGroup to invest in the region. Projects such as the Langco Bay Retreat and the SBH Gloria Hue Resort are already operational and are expected to help increase the city's tourist appeal.

However, despite these investments, a lack of major hotel brands and strategic investors for large-scale projects remains a major issue. Tran Thi Hoai Tram, director of the tourism authority, announced that the region is actively working to eliminate bottlenecks and promote investment. Local authorities are implementing solutions to improve the business environment and increase competitiveness.

Commitment of the authorities

The city is committed to shortening administrative procedures and creating a transparent competitive environment to attract both local and international investors. City leaders are open to recommendations from companies and investors and are willing to respond to their needs. Nevertheless, the dissonance between Hue's tourism potential and its actual infrastructure remains a challenge to overcome.
