Copenhagen rewards sustainable travelers: Up to 90 promotions await!

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, sets a strong example for sustainable travel. As part of the “CopenPay” pilot project, which was launched last year, travelers who arrive by train are motivated with attractive rewards. Derwesten reports that This campaign runs from June 17 to August 17, 2025 and includes a variety of promotions designed to encourage holidaymakers to stay longer in the city.

Rewards for rail travelers include free drinks, discounted entry to cultural events and even free rental bikes. The aim of the campaign is to promote environmentally conscious travel behavior and raise awareness of more sustainable travel. In conjunction with this initiative, organizers also recognize the importance of the traveler's mindset - a factor that plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions in tourism.

Diverse special offers

In total, CopenPay offers over 90 promotions and attractions that invite travelers to explore Copenhagen in an environmentally friendly way. Utopia highlights that participants include the National Museum, the Danish National Gallery and Copenhill. Travelers who stay longer than four nights can receive additional rewards that make their stay even more attractive.

Another interesting offer is aimed at those who travel electrically. A discount scheme for electric cars complements the environmentally friendly message of the campaign and shows the city's willingness to integrate innovative concepts into tourism.

Successful pilot project

The pilot project in 2024 has already produced success stories. 29% more bicycles were rented and the initiative collected tons of rubbish. The results are promising, as 98% of participants recommended the initiative and speak for the positive response among travelers.

Additionally, Copenhagen's commitment to sustainable tourism should also inspire other European destinations to consider similar projects. “CopenPay” is not just a local initiative, but part of the EU “Transition pathway for Tourism” program, which deals with sustainable approaches in international tourism.

This creative and responsible approach shows that Copenhagen strives to be a role model in the field of eco-friendly travel and to promote this through innovative measures.
