Lufthansa announces Paderborn-Munich: Skyhub PAD steps in!
New flight connection Paderborn-Munich from September 2025: Skyhub PAD secures replacement for Lufthansa after planned discontinuation.

Lufthansa announces Paderborn-Munich: Skyhub PAD steps in!
Lufthansa will discontinue the direct connection between Munich and Paderborn on May 31, 2025. The decision results from insufficient utilization of flights and high operating costs, which make continuing the route uneconomical. The last Lufthansa flights will take place at the end of May, which will affect many passengers in the East Westphalia-Lippe region.
In order to maintain the connection to international air traffic, the Skyhub PAD initiative was launched. This was founded in November 2024 by several regional companies with the aim of continuing the connection via an alternative provider and seamlessly continuing with the previous flight schedule.
Replacement with Skyhub PAD and DAT
From September 1, 2025, Skyhub PAD will take over flights from Paderborn to Munich in cooperation with the Danish airline Danish Air Transport (DAT). These flights operate three times a day from Monday to Friday and on Sundays. The departure times from Paderborn to Munich are scheduled at 7:00 a.m., 1:55 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., while the return flights to Paderborn depart at 9:00 a.m., 4:10 p.m. and 8:35 p.m. The flight time is approximately 1.5 hours.
As part of this new cooperation, DAT will deploy machines with a capacity of 70 to 100 seats. Paderborn Airport supports this project and emphasizes the importance of the connection for the attractiveness and competitiveness of the region, which is of great relevance for companies such as Bertelsmann, Miele and Claas.
Prices and booking options
Flights with Skyhub PAD can already be booked online, with prices starting at 149 euros. At the beginning of June 2025, a connection to international hubs might also be possible through an interlining agreement with Lufthansa, which would further expand travel options.
Lufthansa's decision to discontinue the Paderborn-Munich connection has serious consequences for the local economy. Longer travel times would have been the result, which would have had a negative impact on the overall business location. The Skyhub PAD initiative is now trying to close this gap and establish long-term solutions for the region.
The developments could also serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges. Small operators are given the opportunity to serve regional niches, while large airlines increasingly concentrate on more important airports.
Given the ongoing challenges in aviation and the associated economic impact, it is important that local initiatives such as Skyhub PAD are successful to ensure sustainable air connectivity.
