The film already caused a stir during the producer's planning. It was officially announced during the D23 Expo in September 2022. Originally scheduled for March 1, 2024, the theatrical release had to be postponed to June 20, 2025 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and other production delays. The film's animation and design is intended to feature a unique visual style inspired by microscopic organisms and combining the use of translucent and luminescent properties.
