A group of five men from Northern Saxony have embarked on an impressive journey: with their Simson mopeds they set off from Oschatz in Germany to Cape Kamenjak, which is located south of Pula in Croatia. Your goal is to drive over 1,000 kilometers away from roads and motorways - an adventure that requires not only physical fitness, but also a good deal of determination. On Sunday, in the pouring rain, they began their journey. The first twelve hours were characterized by bad weather conditions, which continued on the second day. The route took them through the Czech Republic, across the Austrian border to Lake Wörthersee. On the way there was a photo stop at a stone-carved VW Golf GTI. Despite the adverse conditions, the moped drivers mastered steep passes and narrow hairpin bends at a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

The challenges of the route

The group did not set out unprepared. Tools and spare parts for repairs were taken with them, but they needed several repairs to the spokes of their mopeds during the trip. They had a spare ignition with them in case of an emergency. Despite driving slowly, often in first gear and at just 5 km/h, the team was determined to continue their journey and overcome the challenges.

The tour takes them to the third stage through Slovenia to Trieste in Italy and on to Croatia. However, the change in the weather brought relief: from rain it changed to sunny weather, which led to some of them getting sunburns on their noses after intense sunshine. The last stage covers around 100 kilometers to the finish, with the plan being “off into the water – also with the bikes”.
