Medieval castle festival in Wolkenstein: A spectacle for the whole family!
The 32nd Castle Festival in Wolkenstein is just around the corner. The festival opens on May 29th, the day of Ascension Day, and will last for four days until June 1st. During this time, visitors are taken on a magical journey into the past of the Middle Ages. VIEW reports that the festival offers a comprehensive program of activities.
Historical craftsmanship is brought to life. Craftsmen in historical clothing demonstrate their skills, including a blacksmith, a felt maker and the porcelain painter Marion Bonitz. In addition, a bathhouse with hot water and fragrant oils is set up, where bathwomen refresh the market people. Theo Theodor provides entertainment as a rhyme speaker who humorously guides through the program. In addition, Rudolfo presents an exciting fire and fakir show.
Activities and entertainment
A central element of the castle festival is the knight's camp, where the “Thuringian Knights” show camp life and exciting fights. Musically, the festival is accompanied by historical musicians who play traditional instruments. Well-known groups such as “Draco Faucium”, “Irregang” and “Herzblut” will provide the musical entertainment.
There are numerous activities for the whole family. “Theatrum Pupa” tells captivating stories while children can test their crossbow shooting skills. Face painting and a historical carousel are additional attractions, as are the historical parades, at the head of which the mayor parades through the crowd with a fiddle.
Meals and opening times
The food at the festival is just as varied. Food stalls and taverns offer a wide selection of food and drinks, including Ritterbier, mead, roasts and flat cakes. The opening hours of the festival are as follows: On Thursday, May 29th, it opens from 10 a.m., on Friday from 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. A special highlight: a visit to the museum from Friday to Sunday is included in the admission price.
