Mossman Gorge Walk - Rainforest Circuit

Mossman Gorge Walk - Rainforest Circuit

looking for a quick half-day daintree hike? The hike through the Mossman Gorge through the rainforest is one of the best fast options that you can find near the Daintree national park.

The Mossman Gorge is complete with swimming holes, fresh water streams and huge ancient rainforest trees and offers visitors a piece of the miracle that is the ancient daintree rainforest.

How do you get to Mossman-Gorge?

To get to the Mossman Gorge, you need your own car. From Cairns City it takes a little more than an hour to follow the picturesque Captain Cook Highway north to the Daintree. This trip is a large part of one of the most scenic trips in North Queensland.

If you are based in Port Douglas, it is a closer 22-minute drive.

As soon as you have reached the visitor center, you must park your car in the large parking lot. The road that leads to Mossman Gorge Walk is only closed to private apartments. There is a small community of indigenous community that asked for the road to be blocked for the public.

I attached the location of the Mossman Gorge to the visitor center.

Should I take the Mossman Gorge Shuttle bus?

As soon as you have reached the visitor center, you will find that there are signs everywhere that ask tourists to take the Mossman Gorge Shuttle Bus to the hiking area. The costs are $ 11 per person.

My experience is that it is not necessary to take the Mossman Gorge Shuttle Bus. It is just a short 2 kilometer walk that leads past the outside of the indigenous community.

Although the center tries to convince people under the guise of the "respect for the indigenous community" to take the $ 11 bus, they do not hire indigenous bus drivers. In addition, the residents were friendly, waved and greeted us when we passed. This made me suspicious whether the intentions of the center really only consisted to monopolize this part of the national park.

If you want to support indigenous communities, the center of indigenous DreamTime Walks runs along the Mossman Gorge Walk. These are very informative and a great way to learn more about the clan of indigenous eastern Yalanji people (Bama) and the Kuku Yalanji people.
