Neubrandenburg: Sparkasse modernizes its headquarters – that’s what’s behind it!

The headquarters of the Sparkasse Neubrandenburg-Demmin on Platanenstrasse in Neubrandenburg is currently being modernized. The construction work, which is scheduled to last until 2026, is necessary because the approximately 30-year-old building struggles with overheating in the summer. This was expressed by CEO Peter Siebken, who described the measures as a step towards improved climatic conditions and energy supply. The first construction phase involves the demolition of the attic and a new building with a higher jamb height in order to optimize the usability of the building.

A central goal of the renovation work is to install solar systems on the new roof to generate environmentally friendly energy. The second phase of construction will include the installation of a combined heating and cooling system based on an air source heat pump and geothermal energy. For this purpose, drilling of up to 100 meters is planned, which will be used to use geothermal energy.

Financing and costs

The total costs for the comprehensive modernization are estimated at 6.5 to 7 million euros. The first phase, which includes the construction of a new roof and the installation of the photovoltaic system, is expected to cost around 4.5 million euros. For the second phase, which is aimed at the cooling systems, expenditure is expected to be between 2 and 2.5 million euros. All companies carrying out the construction work come from Neubrandenburg and the surrounding region.

In addition to its own initiative, the savings bank also offers support for customers who want to invest in a solar system. Comprehensive market analyzes are carried out to ensure expert advice. In various federal states, including Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, those interested in solar can rely on support from the Provinzial company, which acts as general contractor and takes over project management. This includes carrying out an on-site visit to inspect the roof and preparing a binding offer directly on site. The installed solar systems should be ready for operation within 12 weeks.

These measures not only contribute to ecological sustainability, but also show the trend towards increased use of renewable energy sources in the region. With its construction work and support for solar system projects, Sparkasse Neubrandenburg-Demmin is positioning itself as a pioneer in sustainability.
