Upper Bavaria is taking off: TOM e.V. is setting new tourism trends!
At the 19th general meeting of Tourismus Oberbayern München e.V. (TOM e.V.) on May 21, 2025, a groundbreaking strategic realignment was presented. A significant result of this meeting was the founding of the Upper Bavaria Experience Partner Network, which brings together leisure providers and tourism service providers. Klaus Stöttner was re-elected as President, while Doris Baumgartl and Benedikt Brandmeier were newly elected to the Presidium. Brandmeier also takes over the office of Vice President. Angela Inselkammer was unanimously elected vice president, and Karlheinz Jungbeck was confirmed as a co-opted member.
The meeting underlined the economic importance of tourism in Upper Bavaria. The area recorded over 46 million overnight stays in 2024, making it one of the strongest tourism regions in Germany. Dr. Christian Scharpf, consultant for labor and economics for the city of Munich, emphasized the importance of cooperation between city institutions and the tourism sector. Oswald Pehel, managing director of TOM e.V., emphasized that it is not just about economic success, but also about holistic tourism development as part of the quality of life and regional identity.
Focus of the new strategy
TOM e.V. positions itself as a modern living space organization with a clear vision and a compass of values. The new strategy is based on four central themes: sustainability, mobility, digitalization and the recruitment of skilled workers and workers. This concept aims to strengthen network structures and promote high-profile travel experiences. A recent study also showed that 93% of people in Upper Bavaria see tourism as an important factor for the region.
An important part of the new direction is the tourism appreciation campaign, planned for 2025. TOM e.V. has set itself the goal of becoming the most connected and high-profile tourism network in Germany. This includes almost 70 members, including almost all destinations, tourist district representatives, cities and tourism-related associations in Upper Bavaria.
Important partnerships and networks
The experience partner network brings together a total of 12 leisure providers to ensure joint marketing and better political visibility for tourism in the region. This is seen as crucial in order to ensure competitiveness and increase the attractiveness of Upper Bavaria as a tourism destination.
Overall, TOM e.V. shows with its new strategy and network how active destination management works and what importance tourism has for regional identity. Stöttner and his team strive for a close integration of regional offers in order to further increase value creation, appreciation as well as quality and innovative strength within the tourism industry.
The developments of TOM e.V. are not only a positive signal for the industry, but also an important step towards a future-oriented and sustainable tourism policy in Upper Bavaria.
