The Peguyangan waterfall is a special place and a waterfall that is unique in many ways. First, this waterfall is actually fed by a pipe system that leads down the cliffs, where it pours into the Indian ocean. The journey to the Peguyangan waterfall is also unique and requires a steep descent over an iconic fluid staircase.
In addition, the Peguyangan waterfall is recognized as a holy water temple, which serves as a place of pilgrimage for Hindus.
In this short guide, I describe everything you need to know about visiting the Peguyangan waterfall on Nusa Penida. I will also include photos of my visit so you know what to expect.

Where is Peguyangan waterfall
The Peguyangan waterfall is located on the west side of Nusa Penida, near other worthwhile attractions such as Kelingking Beach. You will find the floors down to the waterfall on the top of a high towering cliff.
I attached the exact place below so that you can find it easier. Note that the name of the waterfall on Google is actually Guyangan Waterfall.
How do I get here
The best way to get to the Peguyangan waterfall and explore the remaining highlights on Nusa Penida is to rent your own motorcycle.
You can get this in your accommodation or in the many rental shops at the harbor. A daily rent costs between 50,000 and 70,000 Rupiah for a decent scooter.
If you want to save yourself the annoying exchange business, you can alternatively book it on this website for 50,000 Rupiah in advance.
As soon as you have your wheel set, follow the route to the PIN above. Note that the streets on Nusa Penida are somewhat incomplete, but they have definitely improved in recent years.
If you want to explore the island, it makes sense to visit Kelingking Beach for sunrise and then go down to some of the other highlights on the west coast such as Tembaling Beach, Teletubbies Hill and Sekartaji Cliffs before returning to the Peguyangan Water Fall.
Tip: Bring a sarong with you when you have one. The Peguyangan waterfall is a holy water temple. If you forget it, you can "rent" one for 5000-10,000 Rupiah at the bottom of the waterfall.

Alternative: The best of Nusa Penida in one day
Although Nusa Penida is definitely smaller in Bali, I would not say that it is possible to visit all the attractions in one day.
So if you only plan a day trip from Bali, you should save time.
There are many different companies that offer tours from Bali to Nusa Penida who have these travel routes. When booking, however, you should confirm a few things:
- Make sure it's a quick boat
- Make sure that all fees are paid in advance
- Choose one with snorkeling in Crystal Bay, Broken Beach and a visit to the Kelingking Beach!
To save you the search and haggle, I have linked the best rated and cheapest journey with a visit to Kelingking Beach below.

The floors to the Peguyangan waterfall
As soon as you have arrived at the area marked above, you will find a cleared area where you can park your bike. As with most activities on Nusa Penida, you have to pay the fee of 10,000 Rupiah to park your bike.
You will see a sign with an obvious path down to the Peguyangan waterfall, which leads down this iconic fluid staircase.
This staircase is pretty steep, but should not be a big problem for most. It took us about 15 minutes to reach the reason and took some photos on the way.

The Peguyangan waterfall
If you have expected a huge waterfall as in neighboring Bali, you may be a little disappointed. This is definitely not the Peguyangan waterfall.
However, the Peguyangan waterfall, which the locals call Mata Air Peguyangan, is actually not considered a "waterfall", but as a sacred source.
You will notice a shrine on the foot with a large pipe that leads the steep cliff down the water flow. If you are lucky, you may meet some locals who are pilgrimed to this site.

Infinity pool
In addition to the photo-razed blue staircase, the impressive infinity pool is perhaps the most tempting aspect of the Peguyangan waterfall. You will find this further behind the shrine.
This pool is artificially created and rests under an overhanging rock face. It is a great place to relax and cool down. On days with a large waves, you can witness how to break huge waves and break over the back of the pool.
We relaxed in the pool for a good hour and played around with a few local children who apparently had fun playing with my camera. The most difficult part of the day was not the climb, but an attempt to keep my DSLR dry!
