Peter Maffay: Rock legend with a heart for children and fast cars!
Peter Maffay, the 74-year-old rock musician from Romania, is an institution in Germany. With a 55-year stage career and 20 albums that reached the top of the charts, he has inspired many people not only musically but also personally. On his current farewell tour “We love Rock’n’Roll”, he recently played an impressive concert in Berlin’s Waldbühne, which was attended by 21,000 fans despite bad weather. The first of the two sold-out concerts attracted a total of over 42,000 people.
At this particular event, Maffay ceremoniously rode onto the stage on a Harley-Davidson, highlighting his passion for motorcycles. Maffay is not only a musician, but also an enthusiastic motorcyclist who privately drives a Harley-Davidson Softail, which was given to him for his 30th stage anniversary. He also owns another Harley, which was allegedly bought from him by his ex-wife Tania as part of a bet. This love of motorcycles is reflected in his lifestyle, as he often enjoys the freedom of two wheels after concerts.
lifestyle and commitment
In addition to his motorcycles, Maffay's passion for cars cannot be denied. He drives a VW Golf R 4Motion with 310 hp, which he personally picked up in Wolfsburg. In addition to a Porsche 964 and a VW sedan, his possessions also include a collection of vintage tractors. Maffay prefers to travel with his family in a VW bus, which shows that he prefers simple accommodation to the luxury of hotels.
With his Peter Maffay Foundation, he has been committed to children for years, emphasizing how important it is to educate them early on about environmental and climate protection. This initiative receives support from the VW Employees Foundation, with which Maffay has been working since 2015. His environmental awareness was also evident when he recently appeared at a press event in Mallorca on his bicycle, which is an interesting form of transport for him.
Concert highlights in Berlin
The concert in the Waldbühne began at 7 p.m. and offered a nostalgic journey through Maffay's musical successes. The setlist included 24 songs, including big hits like “Du” and “Schatten in die Haut tattooiert”, as well as duets with guests like Johannes Oerding, Joy Denalane and his son Yaris. The internationally known Anastacia was also a guest and sang her hit “So bist du” as well as her own songs.
Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of a funding check for 100,000 euros for yeswecan!cer gGmbH, which underlines Maffay's social responsibility. The concert ended emotionally with “Nessaja” and “You have to go over seven bridges,” followed by an encore that left the fans thrilled. Maffay will appear again at the Waldbühne on July 9, 2024, which his loyal fans are already expecting.
For this event, Maffay stated: “I am happy about everyone who celebrates with us.” His tireless commitment to music and child care shows that Peter Maffay is more than just a rock musician. He is a part of cultural life and passionately supports important social issues.
