Fusion for the future: Hunsrück and Nahe join forces!

The landscape between Rheinhessen and the Hunsrück is being strengthened by a significant merger in the field of tourism. Naheland-Touristik and Hunsrück-Touristik have decided to join forces and found a new company. This will be called “Hunsrück-Nahe-Touristik GmbH” and is scheduled to start on January 1, 2026. As the Rhine newspaper reports, this merger is necessary because both tourism associations are individually too small to be able to compete successfully in the increasingly aggressive competition with larger tourist regions.

The need for a strategic realignment was the central point that brought district administrators and representatives from the districts of the two regions together. At a meeting in the district administration in Simmern, intensive discussions were held about the future development of the tourism organizations. The participants agreed that the competitiveness of the Hunsrück and Nahe regions must be increased. For years there has been high competition for travelers, both domestic and international Rhineland-Palatinate tourism network highlights.

Optimization and collaboration

As part of the exchange, Jörn Winkhaus from Hunsrück-Touristik and Katja Hilt from Naheland-Touristik emphasized the urgency of promoting closer integration or even a merger of tourist companies. This is particularly important because the state of Rhineland-Palatinate is focusing on larger destinations for future funding. However, the Hunsrück and Nahe regions currently do not meet the required criteria for this funding, which represents an additional incentive for the merger.

Another focus of the meeting was the discussion about optimizations in the organization, tasks and cooperation of both tourism associations. The agreement on the need for a closer connection underscores the decades-long partnership between the two sectors. In order to advance the process, timely discussions with shareholders and members of the affected regions are planned.

The merger could therefore be a decisive step in sustainably increasing the tourist attractiveness of the Nahe and Hunsrück regions and securing their place in the competition for visitors.
