Sembalun Village Lombok is a quiet mountain town in the northern mountain regions of the island of Lombok, Indonesia. Although not many tourists visit Sembalun, it is surprisingly one of the best adventure goals in Lombok.

From epic waterfall missions to incredible day hikes, here is a list of activities in Sembalun, which will convince you to skip the masses of Kuta.

How do you get to Sembalun Village Lombok?

on Lombok there is no public transport system that goes to Sembalun. As a result, you have to organize your own transport or drive here.

If you arrive from the airport, it is best to book a private car transfer from Lombok International Airport for less than $ 34

Another popular option for those who want to hike Rinjani is organizing your transport with your travel company. If you hike from Senaru, it should only take about 40 minutes to reach Sembalun, which does not cost more than 100,000 IDR per car.

Epic things to do in the village of Sembalun Lombok

Let us go straight to the list of the best activities in Sembalun and the surrounding North Lombok region.

1. Pergasingan hiking

If it is not a Rinjani summit hike, the most popular activity in Sembalun is the hike on the Pergasing Hill.

Pergasingan Hill is a large hill that lies above the rice field valleys of Sembalun. Its highest point is around 1750 meters, which means that they will overcome about 600 meters of altitude. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the summit, where they are rewarded with some of the best prospects on Lombok.

If you decide to climb the Pergasingan Hill, I would recommend making a sunrise hike or alternatively booking a combined trekking and camping trip to spend a night on the summit.

2. Mangku-Sacti waterfall (Air Terjun Mangku Sacti)

Looking for a real waterfall adventure off the stringing path? The Mangku Sacti waterfall is one of my favorite cases in Lombok and flows strongly even in the dry season.

To get here, it takes about 20 minutes with a motorcycle until you reach an unpaved road. From here it is a 30-minute off-road adventure over some unpaved roads through dense jungle, followed by a 15-minute walk.

The Mangku Sacti waterfall is a large 20-meter waterfall with heavily flowing rapids downstream. My favorite part of this waterfall is that you can climb into it and watch the mighty river behind the waterfall!

3. Viewpoint Bukit Selong Ricefield

Sembalun Village Lombok even has some rather epic viewpoints on the sunset and the sunrise. One of the best you will find is Bukit Selong, which is behind a river on the edge of the village.

This does not require a long hike to reach it, but still rewarded it with an incredible view of the patchwork of the Sembalun fields. On the other hand, you will get another look at the village of Sembalun while listening to the prayers of the mosque that resound in the mountain landscape.

In this part of the village, great damage has occurred, so the owners of the property require an admission price of 5000 Rupiah to visit the bang field selection. This makes a significant contribution to helping the local community with the reconstruction according to the earthquakes.

4. Viewpoint Taman Wisata Pusuk

The viewpoint Taman Wisata Pusuk is another incredible mountain viewpoint at the summit of the Sembalun. In contrast to the Pergasingan Hill, you do not have to hike to the summit, as the viewpoint is actually on the roadside on the pass.

This is a great viewpoint to get a wide view of the Sembalun valley and the massive volcanic mounds. You will also see the small porcelain houses that rest below the Pergasinghan hill and the Rinjani crater.

There is a small bamboo viewing platform that extends over the edge and for some cool, albeit some kitsch photos.

5. Berg-Rinjani trekking

The mountain Rinjani is the highest point on Lombok and the second highest volcano in Indonesia! Rinjani trekking is the reason why many people visit Nord-Lombok, and I'm not accusing them! Trekking and camping on the edge of the crater was one of my favorite experiences in Lombok.

Did you know that all Rinjani summit hikes start from Sembalun? Although the summit trekking is largely closed, it is still possible to arrange a Rinjani crater margin hike from Sembalun.

6. Ride through the strawberry fields

Another unexpected thing in Sembalun was to explore the strawberry fields. If you have a motorcycle and a little time, you can take the same street that leads to the Taman Wisata Pusuk viewpoint through some spectacular strawberry farms.

You will find that villagers sell their freshly grown Bergerdberries on the side of the road. Many also allow you to pick fresh strawberries on your farm for just a donation of 20,000 Rupiah!

Accommodation in Sembalun

The village of Sembalun is not exactly the most tourist place on Lombok. However, this does not mean that there are no great guest houses or hotels.

Accommodation in my Sembalun: Radiyah Guesthouse This is one of the cheapest accommodation opportunities in Sembalun. I would definitely recommend it. The rooms are small but very clean and have everything you need. There is unlimited free coffee and tea as well as a free breakfast. The owner is extremely helpful and organizes a motorcycle for you for 50,000 IDR per day.

The best accommodation in the Inn style: Sembalun Kita Cottage This is probably the place I would have booked if I hadn't stayed in the Radiyah. You have great reviews, inexpensive rooms and large beds. It includes a free breakfast that is classified as "very good" on Booking.com.
