Dispute over access: mountain hut in the Giant Mountains remains closed!
In the heart of the Giant Mountains, the Luční bouda mountain hut, also known as the meadow hut, causes heated discussions. The hotel, located at an altitude of 1410 m above sea level. M., which has 150 beds and a restaurant, is facing serious difficulties. The owners complain about ongoing conflicts with the national park administration, which have a negative impact on operations.
The operators of the meadow hut report harassment by the responsible national park administration, which denies car access to the owners, staff and suppliers. This restriction affects not only the meadow hut, but also twelve other buildings in the KRNAP National Park. In order to be allowed to drive in the national park at all, an exemption is required, which is often not granted.
Protests and closures
The administration of the national park rejects the owners' allegations and emphasizes that the traffic restrictions have remained unchanged for over 30 years. There is still access for necessary deliveries and service work; however, driving without a valid permit is not permitted in sensitive parts of the park. Co-owner Stanislav Beneš expresses sharp criticism of the installation of automatic entrance cameras by the national park administration. He is convinced that the quality of the services offered will suffer significantly as a result.
In response to the ongoing conflicts and the associated restrictions, the Wiesenbaude team has decided to close the mountain hut to day tourists in protest. Access is therefore reserved exclusively for overnight guests. This step is part of a larger protest, which also includes the temporary suspension of the activities of the private rescue service “Vrcholky hor”.
No compromises on security
The situation around the Wiesenbaude is tense. The site near Sněžka, which is a popular destination for hikers and tourists, could be permanently affected by the consequences of traffic restrictions and the lack of adequate access. Those responsible are calling for the current regulations to be reviewed and adjusted in order to ensure the quality of services in the mountain hut.
Given these complex challenges, a solution is urgently needed so that the meadow hut can continue to serve as an important contact point in the national park and for the many visitors to the Giant Mountains. Discussions about access and regulations will certainly continue in the coming weeks and months as the owners and the national park administration need to further clarify their positions.
