Uber starts in Berlin: women only drive with female drivers!
Uber today launched a new offer for female passengers in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. The service includes two main features: Women Drivers and Female Driver Preferred. These innovations aim to increase women's sense of safety during their journeys while attracting more women into the driving profession, reports leadersnet.de.
With the “Women Drivers” function, female passengers can now only be chauffeured by female drivers without incurring an additional charge. In order to use this service, users must enter their gender once in the app and use the latest software version. This innovation is a first step towards offering women in Germany more security when using transport services.
Preferred female drivers
The second feature, “Female Driver Preferred,” allows users to set a preference that increases the likelihood that they will be assigned a female driver on each trip. This setting can be easily activated or deactivated in the app menu under “Account”. With this, Uber is responding to feedback from women around the world, particularly addressing safety concerns, such as uber.com reported.
The pilot phase of these functions in Germany will provide important insights into demand and user behavior, although higher waiting times in the early stages cannot be ruled out, especially when the female driver option is activated. The initial experiences from other markets, such as Paris, are also being incorporated into the German pilot phase.
Future outlook
If the pilot phase is successful, Uber plans to expand the service to other German cities and smaller metropolitan areas. In addition to the new functions for passengers, female drivers can also activate the option in the app to only transport female passengers. This initiative could help increase the attractiveness of the driver job and open up new perspectives in the industry.
Uber is currently active in more than 10,000 cities in 71 countries and offers various mobility services. The introduction of these new options represents an important step towards better meeting the needs and desires of female passengers.
