Record overnight stays in April: domestic tourism is booming!
In April 2025, accommodation providers in Germany recorded a total of 41 million overnight stays. This represents a significant increase of 11% compared to April 2024, partly due to the late location of the Easter holidays and public holidays. These positive developments come after an 8.1% decline in overnight stays in March 2025 compared to March of the previous year. The figures show a clear trend: demand for overnight stays in Germany, both from domestic and international guests, is showing an encouraging development. Travel before9 also reports similar findings in the previous year.
Domestic travelers contributed significantly to this growth. Overnight stays by domestic guests rose by 12.4% to 34.4 million. This shows that Germans are ready to travel more again and use local accommodation options. In contrast, overnight stays by foreign guests only increased moderately by 4.1% and reached 6.6 million.
Overall overview of the first four months
From January to April 2025, a total of 125.6 million overnight stays were recorded, which compares similarly to the same period in 2024. Overnight stays by domestic guests rose slightly by 0.1% to 104.4 million, while foreign guests suffered a decline of 0.7% to 21.2 million. These figures illustrate a certain stability in the German tourism sector, despite changing influences in recent months.
