A German couple got very lucky in Mallorca by winning the main prize in the Spanish lottery ONCE, but without knowing about it. At the end of April, the two holidaymakers bought four tenth tickets at the “Mercat de l’Olivar” in Palma, each for two euros. While they kept two of the tickets, they gave the other two to a merchant as a tip.
The drawing took place on the same evening and, surprisingly, all four tickets won the main prize “El Gordo”. Each of these tickets is worth 35,000 euros, resulting in a total winnings of 140,000 euros. The market seller who got hold of the free tickets has already collected his share of 70,000 euros. The couple, on the other hand, have not been in touch since lottery day, raising questions about whether they know they won.
Deadline for claiming prizes
According to ONCE lottery rules, German winners only have 30 days to make their claim. The deadline runs until May 28, 2025, after which the prize will expire irrevocably. It remains unclear whether the couple has already been informed of their good fortune.
The Spanish aid organization ONCE, which runs the lottery, finances its social projects through the sale of lottery tickets. The sellers with the green vests, who can be found in various places, including in front of supermarkets in Mallorca, are particularly well known.
