Discover Usedom: Sunny island premiere and historical highlights!
On June 1, 2025, the film "Wonderful! Baltic Sea Island Usedom" will celebrate its premiere at 9:30 a.m. The documentary, produced by Alice Tschöke and edited by Christiane Möllers, takes viewers on a journey across the popular German Baltic Sea island. Usedom, also known as the “Bathtub of Berlin”, attracts with almost 2,000 hours of sunshine every year.
In the show, presenter André Gatzke explores the island in a unique way. He begins his exploration from the air by flying over Usedom in a historic aircraft. This perspective allows for impressive views of the diverse landscape and charming coastlines that characterize the island.
Architecture and traditions
Another focus of the documentation is on the resort architecture in Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin. These historic buildings are not only architectural masterpieces, but also part of the region's cultural heritage. Gatzke walks across the picturesque pier, which offers a glimpse into the charming bathing culture that began in the 19th century.
In addition, Świnoujście, the Polish part of Usedom, is visited, which underlines the geographical and cultural diversity of the region. The splendor of the surrounding villas, which were converted into holiday homes after the GDR era and now shine again with their Wilhelminian style charm, is also discussed. In Ückeritz, visitors can expect a beach chair factory and a swimwear museum, which provide further insight into the traditional bathing culture of Usedom.
Historical insights and museums
An important attraction is the Historical-Technical Museum in Peenemünde. Wernher von Braun developed rocket technology here during the Second World War. The exhibition not only shows the military background, but also the original space goals for which the scientists worked in the region. In addition to impressive photographs and documents, Gatzke visits the natural science adventure museum “Phänomenta”, which inspires those interested in research.
The documentary also gives a feel for the leisure options on Usedom, such as a visit to the climbing garden in Pudagla and a sailing tour with a Zeesen boat from Krummin. For those who want to learn more about life in Germany's past, we recommend a trip to the DDR Museum in Dargen, where insights into the everyday life of the former GDR residents are provided.
