Where is Neer Garh Waterfall?

Neer Garh Waterfall is located about 4 km or a 40-minute walk from Laxman Jhula Bridge in the main Tapovan area of Rishikesh.

I've included the exact location below to make navigation easier, but basically you need to follow Highway 7 (Karprayag-Haridwar Rd) east until you see signs for Neer Garh waterfall.

Of course, you can rent a motorbike or scooter to get to Neer Garh waterfall from Rishikesh faster. However, the path along the highway has enough space for safe pedestrian traffic and is quite picturesque as it follows and climbs the steep banks of the Ganges.

Look for a steep winding road that branches off the highway to the left. This is Neergarh Waterfall Road and is just opposite Neer Buddha Hotel.

Walk up this steep street until you reach a ticket booth where you have to pay the entrance fee. From here you continue up the road, with the possibility of taking a few shortcuts through the forest until you reach the falls.

Neer Garh Waterfall Rishikesh Ticket Price

The cost of Neer Garh Waterfall Rishikesh is 50 rupees for foreigners and 30 rupees for locals. There is a ticket counter on Neergarh Waterfall Road just before the entrance to the trail.

Hiking to the Neer Garh Waterfall Tiers

Neer Garh Waterfall Rishikesh consists of multiple tiers as the stream cascades down the mountain slopes. There is a walking path to each level which is a combination of dirt, concrete and small footbridges.

The trek to Neer Garh waterfall takes around 20-30 minutes from the ticket counter to the upper level of the falls. However, you can probably expect to spend at least a few hours relaxing and swimming at the falls. Overall the hike is not too steep and quite easy. When I visited, more than a few older ladies went upstairs.

There are also a few cafes and restaurants set up around the falls. Personally, I prefer more remote and natural waterfalls, so I recommend my favorite step below, which is a bit hidden.

The most remote waterfall stage

Many people tend to skip this level of Neer Garh Falls and head straight for the concrete path that leads to the upper levels. If you prefer a more secluded waterfall away from cafes and crowds, I would recommend checking out the lower level. You'll find it just out of sight, below the top bend of Neer Garh Road, near the waterfall car park (GPS coordinates below).

This level has a few smaller levels and shallow turquoise swimming holes. This section of the waterfall is quite steep but offers amazing views as you bask in the fresh Himalayan water and look out at the mountainous landscape ahead.

Upper Neer Garh waterfalls

Here are some photos of the upper main levels of Neer Garh Waterfall Rishikesh. Note that these levels are usually much more crowded and the banks of the pools are constructed with concrete blocks to maintain swimming depth.

Keep hiking

Once you reach the highest level of Neer Garh Falls, there is an option to hike further up the dirt road. This path follows the stream to the hills above Neer Garh, passing a small structure dedicated to Lord Shiva.

This trail leads to a secluded yoga retreat called Uddibaba, a quaint and picturesque camp off the beaten track, nestled among the green hills above Rishikesh.

The same route leads to the small communities of Dangoo. We decided to follow the creek path to the hill directly above the yoga retreat. From here we were rewarded with great views of the distant mountains and the valleys below.

Where to stay in Rishikesh

After spending a few weeks relaxing and experiencing all the epic things to do and see in Rishikesh, I ended up staying in a few different hotels and hostels. The most important thing to pay attention to in Rishikesh is the location.

Many backpackers including me recommend staying in the Tapovan area. There are so many things to do in Tapovan as this is the main tourist area in Rishikesh. It doesn't matter if you live on the south or north side as everything is within walking distance.

My favorite hostel in Rishikesh: Live Free Hostel After checking out a few hostels, Live Free definitely had the best atmosphere. In addition to a courtyard and comfortable rooms, there is also a large meeting point on the ground floor where communal cooking activities and movie nights take place. There's also free morning yoga on the rooftop. Beds are also incredibly cheap, at less than $4 per night! However, when I booked, for some reason it was cheaper on Booking.com than Hostelworld for this hostel.

Best Budget Private Room: Hotel YogIf you prefer to relax alone or as a couple, Hotel Yog is one of the best budget hotels in the Tapovan area. The rooms are considered budget-friendly, but are slightly more expensive than nearby hostels. But for only about $20 a night for spacious rooms with mountain views, a continental breakfast, and a rooftop terrace, you really can't go wrong.

Top-Rated Yoga Resort: Rudram Hotel Yoga and Ayurvedic Retreat Want to do a full range of yoga in Rishikesh but still stay in the Tapovan area? This place offers yoga classes and free yoga classes by the Ganges. The rooms are super comfortable and have air conditioning and mountain views.
