Where is the White Rock Lookout?
White Rock Lookout is located on the Lamb Range right next to Mount Sheridan. The hiking trail is located in Dinden National Park next to the Lake Morris Reserve on the mountains with a view of Cairns, which is about 10 kilometers northeastern.
Where the name comes from is easy to see. If you look up at the hills, it is easy to see that it protrudes like a large white rock. It is an important viewpoint because it is one of the few exposed rocky promotes in the chain that offers a look over Cairns and the surrounding suburbs as well as the entire Trinity Inlet.

As with most hikes near Cairns, you need your own means of transport to reach the starting point. If you have Cairn's travel and do not have my own car, I recommend using rentalcars.com. This is a price comparison page that works similar to Skyscanner.
How to get to the White Rock Walking Track
Are you looking for a precise directions to the White Rock viewpoint? Sometimes the path to the hiking trail can initially be a bit confusing. However, if you follow these instructions, you will find it easily.
Although Cairns is only about 10 km from White Rock Peak, you have to plan for about 20 minutes to drive. Because to get to the starting point of the hiking trail, you have to drive up the steep and winding Lake Morris Road, which is located directly on the Cairns Western Arterial Road opposite Brimsmead.
As soon as you have reached the Lake Morris Service Road, you must drive uphill about 10 kilometers further. You can monitor the distance by checking the distance markings on the white marking post on the roadside.
When you navigate to the pin below, you will finally reach a few cleared, grassy areas on the side of the road where you can park your car. The starting point of the White Rock hiking trail begins at a large metal gate on the left side of the street, directly opposite the grassy clearing (shortly after the 9.5 km marking).
The drive the Lake Morris Road takes about 15 minutes and contains a few optional viewpoints on the way. One of them is a newly renovated "Campbells Lookout" that overlooks Cairns, but does not compete with the prospects on the White Rock Lookout.
It is also important to note that this side street is a popular training course for cyclists. We drove here long before sunrise and had to make room for at least one dozen cyclists. Think about it and pay attention to curves.

don't make the mistake of flying over this section and relying on Google to get to the "White Rock Lookout" pin. This tries to lead them to the actual viewpoint, not to the starting point of the hike.

Hiking route (return on the same way)
Duration: 1.5-2 hours

Medium
The White Rock Wedge is a 5 km long back and forth in the Lamb Range, right above Cairns. This route takes about 1.5 hours for the return trip if you maintain a decent pace.
The route begins as a wide street with all -wheel drive before turning into a dense forest with tree roots and uneven ground under your feet. The White Rock Walk is steep in some sections, especially the last descent to the White Rock Lookout. However, there are no technically difficult sections and everyone with a good fitness can enjoy this hike.

Metal input gate to the pylon
The wide steel gate marks the beginning of the white rock hike. The first section is flat and quickly appears on the first pylon, where you have to turn almost 180 degrees to continue on the route.

This route is an all-wheel drive access road to the telecommunications tower and therefore very wide and easy to drive. However, this section is also quite steep, so be ready to sweat something.

After a short leg burning, you come to a different pylon and a fenced communication location. You have to handle them on the way to the right. Behind the fenced building, the actual White Rock hiking trail begins, which immediately penetrates the dense rainforest.

White Rock Buschwanderweg
As soon as you have left the access road, you are on the most beautiful part of the hike through the forest. This route is scenic, as it descends on uneven ground, which can become mushy and slippery after heavy rain.
In the trees there are orange triangular markings and colored ligaments that mark the way to the viewpoint.
After about 15 to 20 minutes you can reach a small viewpoint shortly before a fork. It continues to the last descent on the White Rock Hiking Wide to the viewpoint, which is also known as "White Rock Peak".

descent to the White Rock Lookout (left Weg)
It is important to take the left, narrower path to get off 50 meters to the viewpoint. This last piece is pretty steep, but there are many trees and roots that you can stick to when you make your way down.

The right path on the fork continues to lead very steeply to the water towers in Bentley Park. It is also possible to hike to the White Rock Lookout on this route by starting up on the Roberts Road in front of the St. Teresa’s School. However, this route is much steeper and less committed.

Epic views of White Rock Lookout Cairns
As soon as you break out of the tree line, you realize where this rock has its name from. You will also understand why he is known as one of the best viewpoints in Cairns.
The view extends over 180 degrees from Cairns to the Walsh’s Pyramid and the Gillies range. Right below you have a perfect view of the suburbs that extend south of Cairns, and a little further outside you have an uninterrupted look at the entire Trinity Inlet.
We broke up from Cairns to the White Rock Lookout before sunrise. This was definitely worth it because we were spoiled with an impressive light show when golden morning rays penetrated the Yarrabah mountains to illuminate the valley and the distant mountain chains.
