WEETERBREAKS: A father fights for his autistic son!

"WEEKENBREIKEN", the moving film about the relationship between a father and his autistic son, celebrated great cinema success in 2023 with almost a million cinema seekers, which corresponds to the number of viewers of the 18 largest football stadiums in Germany. The film is oriented towards emotional and realistic stories and is based on a real event that started over a decade ago with a award-winning blog that won the Grimme online award. The success story was later published in the form of a book before it finally came to the big screen.

In the leading role, father Mirco is played by Florian David Fitz, while his autistic son Jason Cecilio Andresen embodies. The story revolves around Mirco's professional absence and the challenges that family life brings. His wife Fatime, represented by Aylin Tezel, leads the household and takes care of everyday concerns while trying to support Jason in his world.

The diagnosis of Asperger autism changes the family's life considerably. Jason's everyday life is characterized by strict routines and rules, which causes him difficulties at school. Although the tensions increase, Jason has a clear wish: he wants to find his favorite football club and plans to visit all 56 teams of the first, second and third division in their home stages before making a decision. In order to fulfill this wish, Mirco organizes weekend trips to the different stages, which not only represents a logistical challenge, but also has to take special needs into account.

The trips demand the family emotionally and physically, but at the same time strengthen the bond between father and son. Jason learns that he has to overcome his challenges to enjoy what he loves. A planned trip to Riga leads the family to its limits: Mirco's professional situation is precarious, and the relationship with Fatime threatens to break. In this critical phase, the family recognizes that they are only strong together and can master any hurdle if they hold together.

"WEEKENBREIKEN" came to cinemas on September 28, 2023 and will be available on Amazon Prime Video from May 26, 2025. Production was led by Justyna Muesch, Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann, while Richard Kropf's script comes. The story of Mirco and Jason von Juerczenka touches the audience and offers an impressive insight into the challenges and joys of family life with a special child.
