Holiday trend 2025: Ferry trips and cruises are booming among travelers!

More and more travelers are becoming disappointed with traditional holiday destinations. The hype around traveling to Spain and Greece is fading as new destinations that promise both relaxation and fun gain popularity. Information from the travel platform “Omio” shows a significant increase in ferry bookings from Germany: In 2024, bookings increased by 100% compared to 2023, and bookings for the 2025 ferry season are already above the previous year’s level.

Various holiday destinations are particularly popular. For example, the Amalfi Coast, particularly the route from Naples to Positano, has seen an increase of 210%. Island hopping in Croatia, especially the connection from Split to Hvar, is also extremely popular with an increase of 172%. In addition, short trips between Helsinki and Tallinn are becoming increasingly popular (+64%).

Lower booking numbers and new trends

Travelers are increasingly relying on individual and flexible forms of travel that move away from traditional flight routes. Ferry trips and cruises are particularly popular. In this context, Rebekka Woodroffe from the Hohe See travel agency in Düsseldorf is observing an increase in cruises, which primarily appeal to families, single travelers and couples. Cruises offer variety, allowing travelers to stay in a hotel room and wake up in a new port every day.

Croatia has established itself as a particularly popular destination for such cruises. 25 motor sailors and motor yachts are offered here from Rijeka, Zadar and Trogir, which start on Saturdays. These ships accommodate 8 to 40 passengers and can also be chartered fully, including choice of crew and catering. The safety and hospitality of captains is our top priority and all ships must pass regular security checks in accordance with EU regulations.

Fleet and cabin options

The fleet is divided into different categories to meet the different needs of travelers. The “Deluxe” category includes comfortable motor yachts with steel hulls, spacious cabins and modern equipment. The “Premium” category also includes comfortable motor sailors and motor yachts, while the “Comfort Plus” category offers classic motor sailors with simple cabins.

The cabins can be booked directly via the website of the respective ship, with a booking calendar showing routes and prices. All ships are registered in the Croatian Shipping Register, which provides additional security for travelers.

Overall, it shows that trends in the travel market are changing and new, exciting possibilities can be discovered. In particular, ferry trips and cruises in Croatia for individual travelers could continue to increase in the coming years as more and more holidaymakers look for alternative travel experiences.
