The journey that has changed me: Mike Horn

Mike Horn and the list of his achievements as solo discoverers are unprecedented, so we feel honored that he speaks to us about the trip that has changed him

The great explorers Roald Amundsen and Ernest Shackleton would certainly look at Mike Horn with recognition and admiration. He is probably the largest modern explorer in the world.

The Swiss discoverer and adventurer born in South Africa has probably seen more of the world than any other person on earth.

He swam through the Amazon, has completed an unmotorized global conversion at the equator, went to the North Pole in the dark season (by the way, more people were already on the moon) and also managed to climb the 8,000 in the world - every 14th

He recently returned from Pakistan after trying to climb the K2 and drove up with skis. Of course he has.

Mike Horn: The journey that has changed me

Mike's list of achievements as a solo discoverer is unprecedented, so we feel honored that he talks to us about the trips that have changed him.

Which region or which trip did it impress the most?

for its beauty, Greenland- especially the southwest and east coast. I crossed Greenland on skis and sailed. It changed me because I saw nature with such divine beauty, so unaffected by people, so wild and yet so beautiful. Through my years of travel, I learned to never take a matter of granted nature.

I was surprised by the great satisfaction to sail along the coast and see the country from a different perspective: in the middle of the majestic beauty of the icebergs, the colors and the incredible wildlife.

How old were you?

old enough!

with whom were you?

Some like -minded people who are enthusiastic about nature.

Did you repeat the trip?

Yes and will do it whenever there is an opportunity.

Do you still have a big dream destination that you have not achieved?

The moon!

travel guide or not travel guide?

Under no circumstances! No travel guide!

Are you a planner or onlookers?

I have to make some plans when I go to an expedition, but when I travel, I see how I go.

Hotel or hostel (or camping)?

Among the stars is the only way to do this.

What was your most important travel experience?

Every trip is great and there is always something that you can take with you. However, remember that you always have to give something back to nature, because we are nothing without them.

Why travel?

It wakes up your senses.
