How to get to Anse Source D’Argent

Anse Source D’Argent is located on the west coast of La Digue Island in the Seychelles. It is part of the L’Union Estate and you must therefore pay the entrance fee of SRC 115 to access Anse Source D’Argent beach. In fact, this beach is the only one on La Digue where you have to pay a fee.

Getting there is very easy as La Digue is the smallest of the three popular islands to stay on. Therefore, the best way to get around is to simply rent a balance bike and ride the paved roads here that connect the villages, hotels and resorts.

I stayed at the incredible Chateau Street Cloud and they arranged a bike for me during my visit. Otherwise you can rent a bike almost anywhere for SRC 100-150 per day.

Visitors will find the beach at the end of the property. Don't worry, there are signs everywhere that will guide you through the coconut palms, past the giant turtles and straight to the white sandy beach. You can ride your bike all the way through the property to a point just before Anse Source D’Argent where you can park it for free.

About Anse Source D'Argent

Anse Source D’Argent has often been described as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and also holds the title of being one of the most photographed beaches in the world. So it's no wonder that it is also the most popular beach in the Seychelles.

What makes it unique is the shallow, clear-water lagoon that surrounds its shores and of course these beautifully weathered granite rocks. The Seychelles are the only mid-ocean granite islands in the world, meaning you won't find beaches like these anywhere else.

Visit to the most famous beach in Seychelles

Once you arrive, you'll find a clear path leading behind the boulders to the beach. There is a small hut right at the entrance to the beach next to two of the largest boulders. As you move on, you'll find plenty of space to spread out a towel. There is also a small hut where you can buy drinks and fresh fruit.

As you stroll along the coast, look out for some of the famous rock formations including Shark Rock, Coco De Mer Rock and Kissing Rocks.

Swimming in Source D’Argent is best at high tide as the lagoon almost dries up at low tide. The lagoon is protected from the Indian Ocean behind it, making it one of the safest beaches for swimming on the island.

Unfortunately, much of the coral in the lagoon was bleached by the El Nino event, but you may still be able to see a cruising turtle and lots of fish swimming in the shallows.

Tip: Visit Anse Source D’Argent early (before 10am) if you want to get a spot to yourself. This is one of the island's most popular beaches and can get very crowded in high season.

Is Anse Source D’Argent the best beach on La Digue?

Of course, Anse Source D’Argent is a wonder and incredibly photogenic. I can say with certainty that it is the most popular and famous beach on La Digue Island. However, there are many more beaches you should definitely visit, including Grand Anse, Anse Cocos and of course the secluded Anse Marron.

Where to stay on La Digue

La Digue is a fairly small island and you can get anywhere within 20-30 minutes by bike. You'll find many hotels on the west side of the island near the jetty, but only a few along the narrow coastal road on the mostly inhabited east side.

La Digue has a wide range of hotel and resort offerings, ranging from relatively 'budget-friendly' self-catering lodges to incredible luxury resorts.

Below you will find a short summary of the best tips.

More: The 9 Best Accommodations, Resorts & Hotels on La Digue.

Amazing Chateau: Hotel Chateau St Cloud (Mid-Range) I stayed at Chateau St Cloud on La Digue and I can personally recommend it as one of the best accommodation options on the island. This three-star hotel is perfect as a mid-range option as the location is excellent - just a little outside the main district on a quiet street that is close enough to both the incredible southwest beaches and the harbor. The staff are all very accommodating and the breakfast buffet is great. The rooms are very spacious and the hotel even has a pool and bar.

Waterfront Hotel: Le Nautique (High-End) Rated one of the best waterfront accommodations on La Digue, Le Nautique is a luxury offering that combines traditional Creole architecture with modern comforts like king-size beds and rainfall showers. Here you will also discover a fantastic outdoor restaurant and a beautiful garden setting.

Self Catering: Dream Holiday (Budget) Dream Holiday Self Catering is located at the northern end of the island, very close to the ferry terminal. This location is great as you are close to bike rentals, snack shops and even supermarkets on La Digue's main street. Dream Holiday offers queen rooms with air conditioning, TV, private bathroom and even a balcony. This is a great option if you're visiting La Digue on a budget, while comfort and location are still a priority for you.
