Cape Tourville Lighthouse and Lookout Walk - Freycinet National Park
A short travel guide to the lighthouse in Cape Tourville and for a walk-in walk in Freycinet National Park, Tasmania. Experience breathtaking views of the coast and a rich wildlife at this unique viewpoint.
It is a shame that Cape Tourville is often overshadowed by many other popular hikes and viewpoints at Freycinet National Park. While everyone is equally astonishing, a visit to the Cape Tourville lighthouse is a must for every visitor at the easternmost Cape of Freycinet.
In this post I will outline everything you need to know about the fast and simple Cape Tourville lighthouse and the viewing walk.
About Cape Tourville Lighthouse and Viewption
While the automated lighthouse on Cape Tourville is relatively modern (1971), this region of the Tasmanian east coast has a long colonial story. The Cape was named after the French Admiral Comte de Tourville during the French exploration of the peninsula in 1802.
The indigenous people of Tasmania had a deep connection with the country long before. They lived, hunted, fished and performed ceremonies and meetings on the entire Freycinet Peninsula. Evidence, including dung heaps, date the indigenous line -up back at least 40,000 years.
Today, the Cape Tourville lighthouse serves as a navigation fire, but is better known for its great viewpoint and the short way that can be walked on with boards.

Where is Cape Tourville and how to come here
Cape Tourville is about 7.8 kilometers from Coles Bay in Freycinet National Park. To get here, go towards the visitor center on the Freycinet Drive and turn left onto the Cape Tourville Road. Continue a little more than 5 kilometers on this winding road with steep sections.
All of these streets are paved and we made it here without any problems with our big LWB van. Right at the beginning of the short route there is a large parking space with enough space for large vehicles and even caravans.
