Clamshell Falls-where is that?
Clamshell Falls is located in the Behana gorge in the WooroOnooran National Park, about 35 minutes south of Cairns. The Wooroonooran National Park is quite large, but the gorge begins at the northern tip near Gordonvale, directly on the highway, which makes the access from Cairns quickly and easy.

The easiest way is to insert the Google Maps PIN above to guide it before you leave because the PIN is exactly. However, the telephone reception is very incomplete as soon as you approach the gorge, so it is best to have it loaded beforehand.
drive from Cairns on the Bruce Highway to the south and drive a little more than 30 kilometers away. Shortly after you have passed the striking Walsh pyramid compared to Gordonvale, see a sign that leads you to Behana Gorge Road on the right.
Follow the Behana Gorge Road for about 4.5 kilometers or to the end of the street. If you are on the hiking trail of the Behana Gorge, you will recognize it when you notice the large parking lot with water supply fences and a large pipe.
On the way back to the Highway, you have some of the best prospects for the south wall of the Walsh Pyramid, which is framed by the sugar cane fields on Behana Gorge Road.

As soon as you have arrived at the top of the pin, you will find the starting point of the hiking trail to the Clamshell Falls behind a steel gate next to a fenced water plot of Behana Gorge. The route follows the congestion water pipe for 3.3 km on a fully attached route.
Technically speaking, it is more of a street than a bush hiking trail, but the rainforest backdrop, combined with the picturesque view of the raging water of the gorge, makes it a pleasant hike.Alt = "Behana Gorge Creek Buswalk">
During this hike you will really have no problems navigating to the Clamshell Falls. Simply follow the sealed path next to the tube, while it immerse yourself on an overall rising profile along the Behana gorge. Alt = “Behana Gorge Hiking Wide, waterfall hike to Clamshell Falls”>
On the way there are great swimming opportunities in gentle forest water holes along the stream. Although I was only there in winter, I would assume that in the hot summer months they are quite busy with locals from Cairns and Innisfail.

What you expect from Clamshell Falls
When you reach the end of the Hahana Gorge hiking trail, you will notice a small guide and a large fence that blocks the path. This means the entrance to the water catchment area of Cairns Behana Gorge.
To get to the Clamshell Falls, you have to go back a few hundred meters on the path, where you can find a leaked path that leads to the rock along the stream.
From here it is obvious where the waterfall can be seen.
Clamshell Falls is a number of waterfalls that flow down the steep upper reaches of the gorge. Its source is a flowing stream, which gathers on the west slopes of the mounted Ker, Queensland's second highest mountain. The main pool under the waterfall is very deep and perfect for swimming on a quiet day.
Remember that the water level on Behana Creek and the Clamshell if Falls can change quickly. After a violent downpour, I definitely don't want to swim in any part of the Behana Gorge.

swimming on the Clamshell Falls
The best swimming area on the Clamshell Falls is the width and deep natural pool directly below the main waterfall. I can't tell you exactly how deep the pool is, but I would say it is at least 3-4 meters. This makes it perfect for cooling on a hot summer day, especially after the hike up.
If you continue downstream on the banks of the stream, you will also find some crystal-clear swimming holes and natural spa pools.
