About Diamond Beach on Nusa Penida
The cliff lookout over Diamond Beach has long been popular on Nusa Penida. However, a few years ago, local developers carved an epic staircase right into the cliff face, making this incredible beach accessible to everyone!
The striking white sand beach below is breathtaking when juxtaposed with the turquoise waters and white jungle-covered cliffs above.
You can find Diamond Beach on the southeast side of Nusa Penida. There are many other beautiful attractions nearby including Atuh Beach, the Thousand Island Viewpoint and of course the Instagram-famous clifftop beach house.

How to get to Diamond Beach?
In my opinion, the best way to get to Diamond Beach and the rest of Nusa Penida's highlights is to rent your own motorbike.
You can get these at your accommodation or in the many rental shops at the harbor. A daily rental costs between 50,000 and 70,000 rupiah for a decent scooter.
Alternatively, if you want to avoid the hassle of bartering, you can book it in advance on this website for 50,000 rupiah.
The motorbike ride to Diamond Beach from the main port in Nusa Penida takes about 30 minutes. Although the roads on Nusa Penida have improved in recent years, the eastern side of the island still has some patchy sections, so you should be safe on a motorbike.

Alternative: The best of Nusa Penida from Bali
Do you find yourself in Bali and would rather forego the motorbike rental to see the best highlights of Nusa Penida?
While Nusa Penida is much smaller than neighboring Bali, it's a little too big to cover all the epic highlights in a single day. If you want to see the dramatic east coast of Nusa Penida with attractions such as Diamond Beach, Atuh Beach and the Thousand Island Viewpoint, consider this Nusa Penida East tour departing from Bali.
Otherwise, check out the Best of Nusa Penida tour, which includes boat transfers and highlights like Kelingking Beach, Crystal Bay and the incredible Broken Beach & Angel’s Billabong.

What to Expect at Diamond Beach
Once you arrive at Diamond Beach you will have to pay the 10,000 rupiah that is standard for all attractions on Nusa Penida.
This fee includes parking your bike in the designated space near the stairwell. Once you have paid your tourist tax you can explore the area.
Once you see the incredible Diamond Beach, you'll be sure to finally put up with the hype. This beach is incredible, but it only gets better as you continue down to its shores!
The epic Diamond Beach Cliff Staircase
Perhaps the main attraction of Diamond Beach on Nusa Penida is its incredibly picturesque rock staircase. I'm really not sure how this was covered, but kudos to the craftsmen!
There's even a hand-made rail that runs down most of the steep descent.
It only takes about 5 minutes to reach the bottom. Although it is steep, it definitely shouldn't be a problem for most - especially if you've only tackled the tough roads out here on a motorcycle!
The stairs themselves are great for photos, but keep in mind that this is a popular spot. The last thing you want is a photo queue in such a picturesque island location!

Diamond Beach Nusa Penida
As you descend the rocky stairs to the sandy beach at Diamond Beach, you'll likely notice where the beach gets its name. There are a few large, diamond-shaped rock outcroppings that line the headland and sand.
The beach itself is a dream, and definitely one that's hard to beat! The water is stunningly blue and combined with the white cliff backdrop, this is a serious contender for the most beautiful beach in Indonesia.
We spent a few hours at Diamond Beach after checking out the other nearby attractions. If you are planning a visit to Diamond Beach in Nusa Penida, it is a good idea to visit the Thousand Island Viewpoint early and then go to the beach afterwards to relax like we did.

The Diamond Beach viewpoint
Although it's pretty obvious from the large covered cabin, there is an epic viewpoint that many people miss to the left of the stairs. If you continue up this hill you will find great viewpoints of Diamond Beach.
