8 best beaches on Praslin island

1. Anse Lazio – Most beautiful beach on Praslin

Nestled in a bay on the northwest coast of Praslin lies one of the most stunning beaches you will ever find. Anse Lazio is Praslin's most famous beach and an immensely beautiful tropical paradise.

At Anse Lazio you will probably find the bluest water you have ever seen. There is no fringing reef on this stretch of coast. Instead, visitors can swim in deep water just offshore. The shore is lined with brilliant white sand and scattered granite boulders line the edge of the sand.

Getting to Anse Lazio is fairly easy, but usually requires some form of transportation. If you are short on time and want to experience two of the best highlights on the island of Praslin, it is a good idea to book the Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio day trip. This is one of the top-rated tours on the island and is definitely a great choice for those looking to get more out of their visit.

2. Little Anse Lazio

Okay, I bet you've heard of Anse Lazio, but did you know there's a small version right next door that's basically a tiny deserted beach?

Petite Anse Lazio is one of the best beaches in Praslin if you want to enjoy the tropical atmosphere without the crowds.

You can hike to Petite Anse by following unmarked trails through the jungle in the north of the island. Otherwise, if you book an island hopping tour around Praslin, you'll probably stop by boat at this fantastic beach.

3. Anse St. Jose

This next beach is not technically on the island of Praslin, but just across a narrow strait on the neighboring island of Curieuse. The great thing, however, is that this unique place is easily accessible on a day trip from Praslin.

St. Jose Beach is a long white sand beach that slopes into shallow water with a long fringing reef. This is one of the best beaches near Praslin for snorkeling and you can often spot cruising turtles and even some friendly little reef sharks here.

Even if you don't come for the beach, a visit to Curieuse Island should be on Praslin's list of things to do. This island is the largest protected area in the inner Seychelles for the Aldabra giant tortoise. You will see them roaming freely on the island where they are protected and a successful breeding program is in place.

4. ANSE GEORGETTE

Anse Georgette is another immaculately beautiful Praslin beach on the northwest side of the island. This is a much quieter and more relaxed beach than Anse Lazio, but is often considered just as beautiful.

However, to get to Anse Georgette, you must either stay at the Constance Lemuria Resort or take a scenic 1-hour test drive through the jungle. This trail starts at the western end of Anse Lazio beach and climbs up a hill before descending back down to Anse Georgette.

5. Anse Kerlan

If you island hop, you'll find another great Praslin beach called Anse Kerlan that you should visit. This beach is quite long and behind it you will find many hotels. This is because it is one of the closest beaches to Praslin Airport. So if you fly to the island you will probably pass through it.

Although Anse Kerlan may not be as breathtaking as Anse Lazio or Anse Georgette, it certainly has its charm. It's a relaxed Praslin beach and certainly scenic. Here you will find the famous white sand that is typical of the Seychelles, as well as many coconut trees under which you can find some shade.

6. Cote D’Or Beach (Anse Volbert)

The main tourist magnet on the island of Praslin is located right on the edge of Cote D’Or Beach. Cote D’Or, also called Anse Volbert, is a long stretch of beach that borders a lively resort strip. It is also one of the best beaches on Praslin for swimming and has very clear water.

Since this beach is very long, you can enjoy these unforgettable walks at sunrise or sunset. There is also a famous group of curved palm trees right in front of the “Galerie Passerose” which is a great place if you want to take some tropical vacation photos.

7. Cocos Island Beach

Visitors will find another beach on Cocos Island, accessible by a short boat ride from Praslin. This beach is the best beach near Praslin for snorkeling and is rich in schools of fish and a few turtles. The beach itself is a narrow chain of white sand connected by large granite boulders.

Cocos Island is very small, but is adjacent to Felicity Island, which is usually included when you book a boat trip here. If you are looking for unique things to do in Praslin, visit Cocos Island Beach. The link to the one below also visits La Digue as part of a fantastic full day island hopping adventure.

8. Anse Boudin

Coming in at number eight, and the final item on this list of the best Praslin beaches, is Anse Boudin. This is a beautiful beach at the northern end of Praslin. You will find white, fine sand, huge granite boulders, lots of shade under the palm trees and, above all, not many people!

Anse Boudin is great for swimming, but keep in mind that at very high tide the beach could almost disappear into the ocean.

How to get to Praslin?

Of course, for those who are still in the planning stages of their Seychelles trip, you must first reach Praslin Island before enjoying the fantastic beaches.

If you would like more information, I have gone into much more detail about the options for getting to Praslin here.

However, in general you have 2 options. Firstly, you could take the Cat Cocos (fast ferry) directly from Mahe to Praslin Island. This arrives on the eastern side where the main ferry port is located.

The second option is the Air Seychelles sightseeing flight to Praslin. These run several times a day and the journey only takes 20 minutes. The best thing is that you get an unforgettable view over the islands as you fly in! If you're planning on flying, I recommend comparing prices on CheapOAir and SkyScanner to get a good deal in advance.

TRAVEL TIPS FOR VISITING THE BEST BEACHES IN PRaslin

Accommodation options on the island of Praslin near the beach

Praslin is the second largest of the inner islands and offers some incredible hotels and resorts. A little sleepier than Mahe, Praslin is aimed at the more relaxed crowd.

The main area to stay on Praslin is Cote D’Or Beach. This is the main tourist area with many hotels and beach resorts. However, there are also great resorts and accommodation options throughout Praslin, including near the famous Anse Lazio. I've written a separate, comprehensive accommodation guide for Praslin, but below are some of the best tips.

Amazing Cote D’Or Beach Resort: Acajou Beach ResortAcajou is a beautiful resort offering 4-star accommodation right on the doorstep of the white sandy beaches of the Cote D’Or. I had the pleasure of staying here and honestly, it was one of the best resorts I have ever stayed at. Acajou offers sea-view rooms, a swimming pool and some of the island's best restaurants.

Luxury Honeymoon Suites: Constance Lemuria Hidden between 3 of the best beaches in Praslin, this luxurious 5-star resort is considered one of the best honeymoon resorts in Seychelles. Attached is a luxurious spa center with a whirlpool and sauna in the middle of a palm and bamboo forest. There is even an 18-hole golf course.

Budget Self-Catering: Treasure Island RetreatTo be fair, I wouldn't describe any of the hotels on Praslin as 'budget'. However, for those who want to enjoy the outdoors and save a few pennies on accommodation and food, opting for a self-catering stay on Praslin is a good choice. The best you will find on the island is the Treasure Island Retreat. This hotel offers seafront apartments on Anse Kerlan, all equipped with king-size beds, fully equipped kitchens and furnished terraces or balconies.
