Fairy Falls Cairns - the hidden waterfall at the Crystal Cascades

Fairy Falls Cairns - the hidden waterfall at the Crystal Cascades

A quick waterfall leader that helps you find Fairy Falls Cairns, the hidden waterfall on the back of Crystal Cascades.

Fairy Falls Cairns is a small hidden jewel, just a short 15-minute walk away from the popular Crystal Cascades swimming area.

Sometimes it is worth hiking off the beaten path. This definitely applies to Fairy Falls, since most visitors to Crystal Cascades would not even know that they exist! In my opinion, it is a beautiful waterfall, embedded in a small rainwalse, completely with hanging vines and a crystal -clear waterfall pool.

In this guide, I tell you everything you need to know about visiting Fairy Falls, including your arrival and what you expect after your arrival.

When you read my blog for the first time, you may not know that I have documented hundreds of epic sights and activities in Cairns. After looking at the Crystal Cascades, explore the epic Cairns waterfalls or hiking trails or look at this list to see where you can stay.

How do you come to Fairy Falls Cairns?

To get to the Fairy Falls, you need to drive to the Crystal Cascades, which are about 25 minutes from the city of Cairn. Unfortunately there are no public transport to the Cascades so that you need your own means of transport.

The parking lot for the Crystal Cascades is at the end of the Redlynch Intake Road. Here you have to go and put your car off before you reach the secret path to the Fairy Falls. I marked the exact location of the parking lot on the map below.

If you don't have your own car, I recommend you to book a canyoning tour from Cairns. The following is one of the best canyoning experiences in the far north of Queensland and leads up the "Crystal Canyon", very close to the cascades and Fairy Falls.

Find the hidden track to the fairy Falls

The way to the Fairy Falls is on the left side of the parking lot (if you enter the parking lot and look towards the Crystal Cascades hiking trail).

There are no signs or markings that show the path, but you see the clearing next to a warning sign for stinging plants.

Do not follow this path through the dense tropical rainforest for more than 10 minutes until you reach the stream where the path turns to the left. Don't take the deceptive path that leads a hill almost vertically. Instead, stay near the stream and continue until you reach a small clearing.

Here is a flat pool and directly over it the hidden waterfall.

Fairy Falls Cairns-What to expect

It is true that Fairy Falls is not the most impressive waterfall in Cairns in terms of size or strength. However, it is a very picturesque waterfall that is carved into the cliff and flows into a narrow but deep blue pool.

There is also a large, thick tree trunk that tore down the rapids and seems to have been perfectly clamped into the waterfall. The locals knocked some stages into the slippery bark so that they can climb a little higher and admire the waterfall.

Fairy Falls is one of my favorite places in Cairns to relax away from the crowds. The walk is very short and simple, which makes it one of the best places in the city to cool off in the hot tropical heat.
