Where is Grand Anse on La Digue?

Grand Anse is located in the southeast of La Digue. It is accessible via a jungle road that runs from L’Union, meaning you can cycle here.

Below I have included the exact location to make it easier for you to find it.

How do I get here?

As you may already know, the best way to get around La Digue is to rent a bike and explore the area. You can rent one for around 100 SCR per day. I stayed at Chateau Street Cloud and they arranged a bike for me when I arrived.

For directions from L'Union, the harbor side (west) of the island, where the L'Union Estate and the famous Anse Source D'Argent are also located, head inland to the inland road, accessible via paved access roads. Follow it south from here. There are a few hills to climb along the way, but nothing too dramatic.

If you enter the location on the map above, you can easily find your way to Grand Anse.

What awaits you at Grand Anse La Digue

Grand Anse is my personal favorite beach on La Digue Island and maybe even anywhere in the Seychelles.

This beautiful white sand beach falls into deep, aquatic blue waters. Along the coast you'll see tall coconut trees above some small local shacks selling fresh fruit and cold Seybrew.

At the northern end of Grand Anse is a sprawling cluster of beautiful, weathered granite boulders that make this island so unique.

Behind Grand Anse is a short nature trail that leads past a small lagoon. This area is rich in birds and very beautiful.

Grand Anse sunrise viewpoint

When I first visited Grand Anse on La Digue, I noticed the large granite rock pile at the northern end. I immediately knew I had to climb it to see the view from the top. I was truly blown away by this viewpoint, so much so that I decided to go back for the sunrise the very next morning.

You can access this large granite boulder crop by following the path just behind the beach. Once you reach the top of a small hill, do not descend but turn right. You'll need to use some bouldering skills to reach the top, but it's not too dramatic.

From the viewpoint you have the best view of the Grand Anse as well as the Petite Anse right next door!

Continue to Anse Songe (Anse Songe Trail)

If you're up for a micro-adventure, plan enough time to hike the Anse Songe Trail. This short, 1 kilometer long jungle trail leads to the southern beach of Anse Songe. Just 150 meters before the bicycle parking lot at Grand Anse you will find the starting point of the hiking trail on the right.

The path is easy to follow and there is only a short climb. Once you descend back to the shore you will find a beautiful little secluded beach hidden behind a large boulder. Continue to Anse Songe, a boulder-covered white sand beach that leads to shallow, turquoise water.

Overnight accommodation on the island of La Digue

La Digue is a fairly small island and you can get anywhere within 20-30 minutes by bike. You'll find many hotels on the west side of the island near the jetty, but only a few along the narrow coastal road on the mostly inhabited east side.

La Digue has a wide range of hotel and resort offerings, ranging from relatively 'budget-friendly' self-catering lodges to incredible luxury resorts.

Below you will find a short summary of the best tips.

Amazing Chateau: Hotel Chateau St Cloud (Mid-Range) I stayed at Chateau St Cloud on La Digue and I can personally recommend it as one of the best accommodation options on the island. This three-star hotel is perfect as a mid-range option as the location is excellent - just a little outside the main district on a quiet street that is close enough to both the incredible southwest beaches and the harbor. The staff are all very accommodating and the breakfast buffet is great. The rooms are very spacious and the hotel even has a pool and bar.

Waterfront Hotel: Le Nautique (High-End) Rated one of the best waterfront accommodations on La Digue, Le Nautique is a luxury offering that combines traditional Creole architecture with modern comforts like king-size beds and rainfall showers. Here you will also discover a fantastic outdoor restaurant and a beautiful garden setting.

Self Catering: Dream Holiday (Budget) Dream Holiday Self Catering is located at the northern end of the island, very close to the ferry terminal. This location is great as you are close to bike rentals, snack shops and even supermarkets on La Digue's main street. Dream Holiday offers queen rooms with air conditioning, TV, private bathroom and even a balcony. This is a great option if you're visiting La Digue on a budget, while comfort and location are still a priority for you.
