Hartleys Creek Falls - Cairn's waterfall leader
Hartleys Creek Falls - Cairn's waterfall leader
Hartleys Creek Falls is a waterfall at the end of a gentle hiking trail near Wandetti, north of Cairns.
Are you looking for a quick waterfall hike and an adventure near the northern beaches of Cairns? Hartleys Creek Falls could be exactly what they are looking for.
This waterfall is something like a "local secret", hidden on the back of Wangetti near the well -known Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. But don't worry; There are no crocodiles at the Hartleys Creek Falls, so that after the short but worthwhile hike you can swim on the waterfall.

Where is the Hartleys Creek Falls Track?
Hartleys Creek Falls is located in WANGETTI, directly on the Captain Cook Highway, just 15 km from Palm Cove or 43 km from Cairns. Hartley’s Creek Falls can be reached directly on the Highway via a wide and comfortable hiking trail.
How do I get here
In order to get from Cairns to the starting point of the Hartleys Creek Falls, you simply have to drive north on the Captain Cook Highway towards the cheeks. If you arrive from Cairns, you have to expect at least 40 minutes.
Access to the Hartleys Creek Falls hiking trail is only 500 meters behind Hartleys Crocodile Adventures, near the "Hartleys Creek Retreat". If you use Google Maps, simply enter "Hartleys Creek Retreat" and you will arrive right next to the starting point of the hiking trail.
In front of the retreat there is a large clearing on which you can park your car. Access to the starting point is located directly to the left of the entrance gate to the retreat and is signposted.

The Hartleys Creek Falls Track
Hiking route: 7.5 km (back and forth)
Duration: About 1 hour per route
Height: 290 m total profit (wave)
difficulty: Simple
As soon as you have found the starting point with the information above, the rest is fairly easy. Start passing the fenced with -fenced withdrawal and start with a gentle climb for about 1.5 km. The path is wide and easy to follow and meandily meanders through the local undergrowth. The length of the path follows the banks of the Hartleys Creek to the waterfall without having to make curves.
Although there are some lowering and steep sections, the Hartleys Creek Falls route is very gentle overall and can be completed by everyone with average fitness.
Halfway you can reach a clearing with access to a water hole section from Hartleys Creek. Although it looks like a great campsite, it is unfortunately not allowed. However, if you want to take a fast bathroom, this place is perfect and ensures a very charming rest area.

What to expect at the Hartleys Creek Waterfall and Swimming Hole
Waterfall height: 16 meters (estimate)
Pelveal: At least 3 meters in the deep areas
As soon as you arrive at the Hartleys Creek Falls, you can see why it is such a local favorite. It is easily accessible, the hike is pleasant and rewarding, without being too difficult, and the swimming hole is perfect!
The waterfall itself rushes about 16 meters (my estimate) gently down the steep rock wall into a huge freshwater pool. The pool under the waterfalls is the perfect swimming hole on a hot, tropical summer day. It is possible to climb the lower boulder under the waterfall and jump into the deep pool underneath. It is difficult to say how deep it is, but I couldn't achieve the reason after jumping around the edge of the waterfall.
After you have passed the crocodile attraction up the road, it is difficult to think of crocodiles. However, be assured that there are no crocodiles here (at least nothing has never been spotted).
