How to get to Sauzier waterfall on Mahé?

If you want to visit this waterfall on Mahe on your own, you must first head to Port Glaud.

To get here you have three options. You can either pay a taxi driver, book a tour, or take the public bus via Sans Soucis Rd (the mountain road that traverses the interior of Mahe and passes the Morne Blanc Trail).

The cheap, local option of taking a bus to Sauzier Waterfall will only cost you around 14 SCR. There are many public buses that depart from Victoria, just ask the driver if he goes to Port Glaud.

The price of a taxi varies. However, keep in mind that you will probably also need to return to your accommodation from Port Glaud. This is easy with a bus, but if you prefer a private driver, you can include Sauzier Falls instead on this customizable full-day tour of Mahe with a private driver.

Waterfall entrance

When you arrive in Port Glaud, just walk down the street right next to the church of Sts. Peter and Paul. Just drive up this road past beautiful island houses in the village. Keep left at the fork and continue for a few hundred meters until you reach the ticket office at the entrance to Sauzier Falls.

There is also plenty of parking at the beginning of the short trail where you can leave your car for free.

Tip: There is a known scam at Sauzier Waterfall. You will often see some locals on the street just behind the church telling you that the entrance fee is very high and that he knows a secret jungle route. He will ask you to pay him instead. I have spoken extensively with the owner (the waterfall is on private property) as well as the STB (tourism office) and these guys are working illegally and scamming tourists. It's a good idea to politely decline and just go to the ticket counter instead.

What to expect at this Mahé waterfall

Entrance fee: 50 SCR

After paying the small entrance fee, you continue walking along an easy and short jungle path for about 5 minutes before arriving at the base of the falls.

The path is easy to follow and you will probably hear the sound of rushing water very early on.

Sauzier Waterfall is a tall, cascading waterfall that falls from the fresh mountain waters of Morne Seychelles National Park. I was told the flow is constant all year round. In the photos you see here, it hadn't rained for about a week.

At the base of the waterfall there is a deep swimming pool which is very refreshing. The swimming hole is fairly deep, but not deep enough to jump off a cliff or jump from the adjacent boulders on the left.

Below are some more photos I took during my quick visit to Sauzier Waterfall. I decided to walk past this place after hiking the amazing Mare Aux Cochons Trail from the northeast near Beau Vallon and Anse Major. It was a great way to end a fantastic but sweaty day of hiking on Mahé!
