How do you get to the island of La Digue on the Seychelles?

Below you will find an overview of how to get to La Digue from both Mahé and Praslin.

How do you get from mahe to la Digue?

from mahe you have three ways to get to the island.

Update: Creole Adventures now offers day trips to the islands of Praslin and La Digue. This is a great option if you have little time, but many highlights such as Praslins want to see famous beaches and the famous Vallée de Mai.

Option 1: Ferry according to La Digue (Cat Cocos)

The most popular way to get from Mahe to La Digue Island is the quick ferry that Mahe leaves every day. This boat is called Cat Cocos, it is best to book it online in advance to secure a place.

Ferry price: € 60 for the Lower Deck, € 65 for the upper deck and € 80 for the Business Class

The trip begins at Cat Cocos in Victoria, opposite Orion Mall, about 9.5 kilometers north of Mahé International Airport. Traffic in Mahe to the north can be notoriously strong, especially in the morning, so take enough time to reach the ferry port. The website says that you should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.

The CAT Cocos ferry takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the island of La Digue from MAHE. Click the link below to check times and availability and book your ticket.

Option 2: Fly to Praslin and take the 15-minute ferry

The second option is the option I have chosen. You can take a 15-minute flight from Mahe Airport directly to Praslin. From there with the cat rose from the ferry terminal on Praslin directly to La Digue (15 minutes).

The advantage of this option is that you experience the sightseeing flight over Mahe and Praslin. This was one of the highlights of my trip to the Seychelles for me and I am definitely glad that I got this option!

You must first book a flight from Air Seychelles. Before booking, I always check Skyscanner and Cheapoair for reduced prices and special offers.

As soon as you arrive in Praslin, you need to take a transfer to the ferry terminal that is about 15 minutes from the airport. The best way to the ferry terminal is by taxi. Numerous taxes with a taximeter are waiting in front of the airport. Don't worry, the taxi drivers on the Seychelles are not intrusive, but very friendly and courteous.

As soon as you have arrived at the ferry terminal, take the CAT Rose ferry from Praslin. This is also a picturesque quick ferry that drives past Round Island on the way and only takes about 15 minutes.

Option 3: Private boat transfer

For those with a short budget or for high scooters who are not interested in public transport and are wondering how they can stylishly come to La Digue, there is a private boat transfer from Mahé to Praslin.

You can book this trip online via Viator, but it is a much more expensive option than the ride on public transport.

How do you get from Praslin to La Digue?

If you have already made it to Praslin and wonder how to come to La Digue, you may see that I have already treated this route above. For those who jumped here and would like a quick answer, you should take the Cat Rose ferry.

Below I spotted the exact place from which the Cat Rose ferry in Praslin leaves. The trip from Praslin to La Digue on board the Cat Rose only takes 15 minutes and is quite cheap at only € 17 per person.

la Digue is a fairly small island and you can get anywhere within 20-30 minutes. You will find many hotels on the west side of the island near the jetty, but only a few along the narrow coastal road on the mostly inhabited east side.

on La Digue there is a large selection of hotel and resort offers that range from relatively "budget-friendly" self-catering lodges to incredible luxury resorts.

Below you will find a short summary of the best tips.

More: The 9 best accommodations, resorts & hotels on La Digue.

Amazing Chateau: Hotel Chateau St Cloud (mid -range) in the Chateau St Cloud I stayed on La Digue and I can personally recommend it as one of the best accommodation opportunities on the island. This three-star hotel is perfect as a mid-range option because the location is excellent-just a little outside the main quarter in a quiet street, which is close enough to the incredible beaches in the southwest and port. The employees are all very courteous and the breakfast buffet is great. The rooms are very spacious and the hotel even has a pool and a bar.

Hotel am Water: Le Nautique (high-end) as one of the best accommodations on the water on La Digue, Le Nautique is a luxurious offer that combines traditional Creole architecture with modern comfort such as king-size and rain showers. Here you can also discover a fantastic outdoor restaurant and a beautiful garden environment.

Self -catering: Dream Holiday (Budget) Dream Holiday Self Catering is located at the northern end of the island, very close to the ferry terminal. This location is great because they are near bicycle rows, snack shops and even supermarkets on the main street of La Digue. Dream Holiday offers queen rooms with air conditioning, TV, own bathroom and even a balcony. This is a great option when you visit La Digue with a small budget, while comfort and location still have a priority for you.
