Where is the island of Praslin

Praslin is one of the 115 islands of the Seychelles. It is considered one of the 43 inner islands and together with Mahe and La Digue as one of the three main islands for tourism.

Praslin is about 49 kilometers northeast of the main island; MAHE, but only about 10 kilometers from the nearby La Digue. As the largest island in the area, it also has most of the tourist infrastructure.

Below you will find a card on which you can navigate to orientate yourself to the island of Praslin when planning your journey. Read on for the best options.

How do you get from Mahe to the island of Praslin?

In the following I give you an overview of the three current options to get from Mahe to Praslin Island.

Update: Creole Adventures now offers day trips to the islands of Praslin and La Digue. This is a great option if you have little time, but many highlights such as Praslins want to see famous beaches and the famous Vallée de Mai.

Option 1: Fast ferry from Mahé to Praslin

The most popular way to get from Mahe to Praslin is the quick ferry Cat Cocos. This boat drives daily and only needs about 1 hour to reach Praslin from Mahe. This is a popular route, so it is best to book online in advance to secure a place.

Ferry price: € 50 for the Lower Deck, 55 € for the upper deck and € 70 for the Business Class

The trip begins at Cat Cocos in Victoria, opposite Orion Mall, about 9.5 kilometers north of Mahé International Airport. Traffic in Mahe to the north can be notoriously strong, especially in the morning, so take enough time to reach the ferry port. The website says that you should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.

arrived on Praslin, go in Baie Sainte Anne at the eastern end of the island.

Option 2: Air Seychelles Flight from Mahé to Praslin

The second most popular and in my opinion Best option is the circular flight from Air Seychelles from Mahé to Praslin Airport. This option is a great price-performance ratio and can definitely be seen as an experience. The fast 10-minute flight to Praslin is very attractive and you will have a great view over both islands on the way there.

The plane starts at the Mahe Domestic Terminal, which is very tiny - only a small room! The plane is a small propeller aircraft with space for about 12 people.

You absolutely have to book this flight if you choose this option to get to Praslin from MAHE. Before booking, I always check Skyscanner and Cheapoair for reduced prices and special offers.

Option 3: Private boat transfer according to Praslin

If you have little time or want to know how to get stylishly from Mahe to Praslin, you can also book a private boat online.

This trip is quite expensive, especially compared to public transport. However, I added it because I understand that some people prefer a luxurious private trip, especially on the Seychelles!

Accommodation options on Praslin after your arrival

Praslin is the second largest of the inner islands and offers some incredible hotels and resorts. Praslin is a little sleeper than mAHE and is aimed at the more relaxed amount.

The main area for a stay on Praslin is the Cote d’Or Beach. This is the main tourist mile with many hotels and beach resorts. However, there are also great resorts and accommodation opportunities on all of Praslin, including near the famous Anse Lazio. I wrote a separate, comprehensive accommodation guide for Praslin, but below are some of the best tips.

Amazing beach resort on the Cote d’Or: Acajou Beach Resortacajou is a beautiful resort with 4-star accommodation right on the front door of the white sandy beaches of the Cote d’Or. I had the pleasure of spending the night here, and frankly, it was one of the best resorts in which I have ever stayed. Acajou offers rooms with a sea view, a swimming pool and some of the best restaurants on the island.

Luxurious honeymoon suites: Constance Lemuria hides between 3 of the best beaches on Praslin, this luxurious 5-star resort is one of the best honeymoon resorts on the Seychelles. A luxurious spa center with a whirlpool and sauna is connected in the middle of a palm and bamboo forest. There is even an 18-hole golf course.

Budget Self -catering: Treasure Island Retreatum Fair, I would not call any of the hotels on Praslin as a "budget". For those who want to enjoy nature and save a few cents on accommodation and meals, the decision for a self-catering stay on Praslin is a good choice. The best you will find on the island is Treasure Island Retreat. This hotel offers apartments by the sea on the Anse Kerlan, all of which are equipped with king-size beds, fully equipped kitchen and furnished terrace or balcony.
