Nestled in a bay on the northwest coast of Praslin lies one of the most stunning beaches you will ever find. Anse Lazio, Praslin Island's most famous beach, is an epic tropical paradise with a row of coconut-filled palm trees over pristine white sand and turquoise waters.

In this guide I will describe everything you need to know about visiting Anse Lazio Beach, including how to get there and what to expect. I've also included photos from my recent trip that will hopefully inspire you to visit this gem!

About Praslin's most beautiful beach

Anse Lazio is often referred to as Praslin's most beautiful beach. Although slightly different, it is the island's answer to the Anse Source d’Argent on the amazing island of La Digue. Since Praslin is also a granite island, you will also find beautiful granite rocks that are only found in Seychelles.

However, unlike many other beaches on La Digue, Anse Lazio is not protected by a series of coral reefs. Instead, you'll find a deep drop-off into clear water with a sandy bottom.

How to get to Anse Lazio

You are free to visit Anse Lazio beach at any time and the visit is completely free. Getting there is quite easy as it is connected via the main coastal road, which is paved and fairly well maintained. You can take a taxi or ride a bike or motorbike. However, keep in mind that the hills leading up to Anse Lazio get super steep towards the end.

Plus, there's a long descent to the beach just before you arrive, so make sure you're prepared for the return journey when you return!

If you are visiting Praslin and want to make the most of your time on the island, then one of the best options is to visit Anse Lazio as part of a combined day trip to the Vallée de Mai. This saves money on transport and is honestly one of the best ways to spend a day in Praslin.

Where is Anse Lazio?

Anse Lazio is located on the northwest coast of Praslin Island in the Seychelles. Of course, if you're planning a visit to this incredible beach, you'll first need to get from the main island of Mahe to Praslin Island.

You will find Anse Lazio approximately 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Baie Sainte Anne, where the Praslin ferry port is located. If you stay at the popular Cote D’Or Beach, it is a shorter distance of 8 kilometers (5 miles).

Below I have noted the exact location of the beach to make it easier for you to find it.

What awaits you at Anse Lazio

Once you arrive at Anse Lazio you will find a large parking lot in a semi-shaded area next to the restaurant. If you head further to the beach you'll find a long stretch of white sand and of course some of that incredibly rich light blue water you've no doubt seen on postcards.

And that's because Anse Lazio on Praslin is truly a postcard scene. With sky-high palm trees, Takamaka trees and rolling forested hills in the background, it's hard not to get a good photo of this incredible beach!

As you continue from the parking lot you will find a large beach on the right. However, I suggest taking the short path to your left which leads to some beautiful secluded stretches of beach nestled between jungle flora and large granite boulders.

There is also a small beach bar shack on the way that serves delicious fruits and drinks.

Tip: If you plan to spend some time at Anse Lazio, I recommend coming either early or in the afternoon. Because if you arrive at midday, you probably won't have much space to find a secluded spot. Considered one of the best beaches in the world, Anse Lazio is very popular!

Can you snorkel at Anse Lazio?

The water at Anse Lazio is quite clear, making it a good place for snorkeling. However, don't expect to see much coral as the bottom is mostly sand. If you are visiting Praslin and want to snorkel, a snorkeling day trip to the islands of St. Pierre and Curieuse is a good alternative. These are the two best snorkeling spots on Praslin.

Anse Lazio restaurant

There is a large restaurant next to the parking lot at Anse Lazio. However, it appeared to be closed when I visited. I'm not sure if this was due to the pandemic or if they were planning on reopening.

There is also a large construction project taking place right on the beach. I spoke to a local Seychellois from Praslin and they told me that it is a new resort. He also wasn't very impressed with the fact that they got the right to build it right on the beach. I tend to agree with him and it seems that it has spoiled the pristine nature a bit.

from Anse Lazio to Anse Georgette

While Anse Lazio is officially Praslin's most beautiful and consequently most popular beach, there is another amazing beach accessible via a nature trail from Anse Lazio. This trail starts at the western end of Anse Lazio and climbs up a hill before descending back down to Anse Georgette.

This hike is not dramatic, but make sure you are prepared. I would say it would take most people about an hour to reach Anse Georgette from Anse Lazio at a leisurely pace. Just remember that it gets hot in the tropics and bring some water to rehydrate.

Once you arrive, the perfect scenery more than makes up for the sweat you lost. And the crystal clear water is the perfect reward for cooling off!

Little Anse Lazio

Yes that is correct. There is a tiny, secluded beach at the northern end of Anse Lazio. This is called Petite Anse Lazio. Getting there is a bit difficult and requires crossing the jungle on unmarked paths.

Instead, I visited this beach as part of a quick stop on an island hopping trip to Curieuse Island (a must do!).

When is the best time to visit?

Since the Seychelles archipelago lies in the subequatorial climate zone, you will find stable, sunny weather all year round. This means no hurricanes, but seasonal rainy periods with a constant temperature range between 25-35°C.

The best time to visit Seychelles to see world-class highlights like the beautiful Anse Lazio Beach is between April and May and October and November. However, I was there in December and the weather was absolutely perfect as you can see from the photos.

Anse Lazio Hotel – Can you stay in a resort near the beach?

In addition to the new building project, there are a few accommodations that are actually close to the beach. This is a good choice if you are looking for a relaxing hotel option in one of Praslin's most scenic areas.

Below are the three Anse Lazio hotel options to choose from:

Other recommended accommodations on Praslin

Praslin is the second largest of the inner islands and offers some incredible hotels and resorts. A little sleepier than Mahe, Praslin is aimed at the more relaxed crowd.

The main area to stay on Praslin is Cote D’Or Beach. This is the main tourist area with many hotels and beach resorts. However, there are also great resorts and accommodation options throughout Praslin, including near the famous Anse Lazio. Amazing Cote D’Or Beach Resort: Acajou Beach ResortAcajou is a beautiful resort offering 4-star accommodation right on the doorstep of the white sandy beaches of the Cote D’Or. I had the pleasure of staying here and honestly, it was one of the best resorts I have ever stayed at. Acajou offers sea-view rooms, a swimming pool and some of the island's best restaurants.

Luxury Honeymoon Suites: Constance Lemuria Hidden between 3 of the best beaches in Praslin, this luxurious 5-star resort is considered one of the best honeymoon resorts in Seychelles. Attached is a luxurious spa center with a whirlpool and sauna in the middle of a palm and bamboo forest. There is even an 18-hole golf course.

Budget Self-Catering: Treasure Island RetreatTo be fair, I wouldn't describe any of the hotels on Praslin as 'budget'. However, for those who want to enjoy the outdoors and save a few pennies on accommodation and food, opting for a self-catering stay on Praslin is a good choice. The best you will find on the island is the Treasure Island Retreat. This hotel offers seafront apartments on Anse Kerlan, all equipped with king-size beds, fully equipped kitchens and furnished terraces or balconies.
