About the Tayangban Höhlenpool

Admission: 100 pesos (mandatory leader)

The Tayangban Cave Pool is an attraction in the interior of Siargao, near the Magpupupungko Rock Pools. This page is on private ground and you have to pay one of the family members to guide you through this mini-canyoning adventure.

The cave is actually categorized as a cenote or natural doline, which forms when limestone breaks down and exposes deep pools with fresh groundwater. Our guide told me that the deepest pools in the Tayangban cave are really very deep, namely over 100 meters!

These caves were actually called Kantoloi Twin Cenotes after the first Filipino caves had explored them.

How to get to the Tayangban Höhlenpool

There are two options if you plan to get to Tayangban. You can either book a guided tour of General Luna, which also contains other attractions, or you could drive here.

Option 1: Leadership

Update 2021: There are currently no tours for the Tayangban Cave Pools that you can book online. You can either try your luck in General Luna, or choose option 2 and drive here.

Alternatively, you can book the Siargao Land Tour, which includes further highlights, including the Magpupupungko Rock Pools, the Siargao Swing, the Coconut Road and more.

Option 2: Independent

For the independent discoverers, rent a bike in General Luna for between 250 and 350 pesos per day. In this way I explored a large part of Siargao during my visits.

The journey to the Tayangban Cave Pools on Siargao is simple and the streets on this route from General Luna are well developed. The easiest way to get here is to simply enter the coordinates in the map below.

where is it?

Take the Dapa from General Luna - General Luna Road to the intersection next to the Eagle’s Club statue. Turn right onto the Siargao CircumFerential Road. Follow next to the street past the famous Palm Tree Viewpoint, down the Coconut Road and past the Maasin Bent Palm Tree Swing. From here you continue on the Siargao CircumFerential Road until you see the sign "Tayangban Cave Pool". This is literally directly on the roadside.

You stop here, pay your fee and your guide brings you down into the caves.

TIP: Magpupfungko Rock Pools are only 10 minutes away!

What you can expect in the Tayangban Cave Pool

When I arrived at Tayangban Cave Pool, it must have been a quiet day, because the tour consisted of me and only another Filipino alone. Our guide led us both through a small crack in the cave, which led into a larger cave with a hip deep water. You have to get wet at least up to your hip, so be prepared for it!

We stopped in some sections, where our guide pointed out huge stalagmites and stalactites. There were also bats lived in this cave and some Swiftlets that flew through the caves. It is quite dark in the cave because the only light source is a torch that is worn by our guide.

After we were waded through the Tayangban cave for about 15 minutes with the help of some ropes and bamboo structures, we reached the starting point. This large section has two cave openings and is quite picturesque because it opens up to the cenote or the cave pool in front of them.

In the end we spent about 15 minutes to swim and explore the cenotes. Some sections are quite deep and it looks as if they can jump from some sides of the cliffs that surround it.
