Tchupala Falls and Wallicher Falls, Wooroonooran National Park, Cairns
A short guide to visit the Tchupala Falls and Waller Falls in the Wooroonooran National Park. Everything you need to know, including how you come here, what awaits you and photos of the waterfalls.
tchupala Falls and Walicher ifs are two waterfalls in the tropical Wooroonooran National Park. Although they are not as popular as other waterfalls in the area, they offer the adventure lover, who receives two waterfalls on the same hike, a good price-performance ratio!

How to get to the Tchupala Falls and Walicher if
To get to these incredible waterfalls, you need your own car. While there are several guided tours that offer the tours of Cairns to the WooroOnooran National Park and the surrounding waterfalls, I don't know any who visit these special waterfalls.
It is a fairly long journey from Cairns and the waterfalls should take about an hour and a half to reach them. However, there are many other waterfalls in the area, so that a day trip is worthwhile.
drive down the Palmerston Highway in the WooroOnooran National Park and stop at a small curve directly behind the Henrietta Creek Campground in the area of Palmerston (Doongan). You will notice a sign that indicates hikes and a waterfall. There is a small unpaved section in which you can park your car.
Below you will find the pin for the location of the starting point. It is very easy to overlook and mobile phone reception is not particularly good in the area. I would propose to configure the route to the Tchupala Falls and the Wallicher Falls before they penetrate too far into the national park. Keep an eye out for a sign near Henrietta Camp Ground and the Gooligan Picnic Area and you can't go wrong.

The waterfall trail heads
As soon as you have parked your car, you will notice a sign that shows the beginning of the route. Both waterfall paths branch off from the same start path, with the Wallicher Falls on the left and Tchupala on the right after about 100 meters.

Tchupala Falls Track-What to expect
If you only have time for a waterfall, I would definitely recommend the Tchupala if. We found these waterfalls accidentally after we had explored the nearby Nandroya Falls and we were completely overwhelmed.
The route winds immediately after the curve and follows a path through dense tropical rainforest and a steep ridge. After about 600 meters you can reach the top level of the Tchupala Falls, a wide rainforest waterfall that is fed by the Henrietta Creek.

Closed waterfall path
tchupala Falls actually has three main levels, each of which is as incredible as the previous one. Unfortunately, the path is closed due to the devastating power of the waterfalls in the rainy season.
There are several signs that travelers say that they should not go to the lower levels, but after checking the conditions, we decided to explore the area anyway.
The paths were completely abandoned, and it seemed as if they had been like that for years. The old rails are now covered by thick vines and the carved rock levels are swallowed by dirt and moss.

Tchupala Falls-The lower levels
The path down to the lower waterfall levels was very slippery and steep. However, after we had reached the bottom, we took the time to admire the sheer strength and beauty of the place. On each side there were waterfalls and steep limestone rocks that were covered with dense vines and rainforest flora.

I don't encourage anyone to hike on closed paths. The flowing rivers can be extremely unpredictable and dangerous. You have to exercise extreme caution and form your own judgment.
Wallich Falls Track-What to expect
If you have time, it is also worth visiting the Wallich case on the same route. Instead of turning right at the first fork, turn left and drive about 1 kilometer further. Soon you will reach a viewpoint from which you have a great view of the mighty Wallicher Falls.
In contrast to the Tchupala Falls, the Walicher if only a one -time waterfall are. However, it is still very impressive and I could imagine that it has a serious strength in the wet rainy season.
If you want to take a closer look at it, you can go down the steep path directly in front of the viewing platform.

We continue to the Palmerston Track
From Wallicher Falls you can continue hiking all the way to the Gooligans Picnic Area and Henrietta Creek Campground. The path is a bit long and you will no longer see waterfalls on the way. However, you can certainly spend a whole day with running the loop and the Nandroya Falls and the Silver Creek Falls are on the go.
