Xuong Ly Fishing Festival: Tradition and tourism unite in Quy Nhon!
On May 20, 2025, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam approved a major project to preserve and promote the Xuong Ly Lagoon Fishing Festival. Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong signed the relevant decision, which aims to preserve traditional cultural heritage, develop sustainable tourism and create new rural areas. The main tasks of the project include research on the fishing festival, organizing courses to teach festival skills, and providing tools and offerings for ritual practices.
The Cultural Heritage Department will lead the project, in collaboration with the Binh Dinh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Quy Nhon Municipal People's Committee. Specific goals include establishing a list of artisans and festival practitioners involved in the implementation, as well as developing solutions to promote the cultural values of the Xuong Ly Van Dam Fishing Festival. This festival has high cultural and historical value and is a spiritual support for the Nhon Ly fishing community.
Cultural and historical significance of the festival
The fishing festival reflects the gratitude of fishermen to their patron deity. Traditional rituals such as the Ông procession and the Ba Trao singing symbolize solidarity and social cohesion. Preservation of the festival has the potential to promote cultural and spiritual tourism in Quy Nhon and Binh Dinh.
In addition to this exciting project, Hoang Dao Cuong also approved archaeological excavations at three sites of the Truong Luy Binh Dinh Relic Site, which will take place from May 23 to June 30. The artifacts found are managed and protected by the Binh Dinh Provincial Museum.
