A current study by the Swiss platform HelloSafe evaluates the safety of travel destinations in 2025. Europe is at the top, with Austria occupying an outstanding position. With a fourth place in the global safety ranking behind Iceland, Singapore and Denmark, Austria is ranked as one of the safest travel destinations in the world. The Hellosafe Index assesses the security of countries based on 35 criteria that include natural disasters, violence, armed conflict, health infrastructure and militarization, reflecting not tourist attractiveness but the global security situation.

Overall, 30 of the 50 safest countries in the world are in Europe. The study highlights that twelve European countries are represented among the 15 safest countries in the world. In addition to Austria, these include Switzerland in 5th place and the Czech Republic in 6th place. Other European countries such as Norway have also achieved high safety ratings. The widespread threat of terrorism is depressing the security level of France, which ranks 80th in the world, while Spain and Italy fare only slightly better.

The most unsafe countries

In contrast, there are the 15 most unsafe countries in the world, including the Philippines, Colombia and Mexico. These countries are characterized by a high level of violence and natural disasters. Other unsafe states include Syria, Yemen and Russia, which are considered dangerous due to ongoing conflicts.
