Lang Son, a province in northern Vietnam, is rapidly becoming a focal point for tourism in the country. The province is characterized by a rich cultural heritage with over 300 traditional festivals and is home to important tourist destinations such as Tam Thanh-Nhi Thanh Cave, To Thi Mountain and the Mau Son Ecotourism Area. Of particular note is the UNESCO Global Geopark Lang Son, which impresses with its impressive geological formations and historical remains.

Tourist destinations and events

Lang Son actively promotes ecotourism, spiritual tourism, community tourism and border trade. Events such as the Peach Blossom Festival and Culture and Tourism Week attract large numbers of visitors every year. The number of visitors is impressive: over 4.2 million tourists are expected in 2024, including 142,000 international guests. Almost 2 million visitors were already counted in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of over 40% compared to the previous year.

Ho Tien Thieu, chairman of the People's Committee, stressed the need for investment in infrastructure and tourism products to reach the target of 4.4 million visitors in 2025. This growth is supported by innovative approaches and promotion of the local image. Lang Son also participated in over 30 trade fairs and held over 280 festivals since the beginning of 2024 to increase its visibility.

Geological features

The UNESCO Global Geopark Lang Son encompasses rugged limestone mountains and offers unique insights into Earth's evolution. UNESCO reports that the geological formations tell the story of changing seas and volcanic eruptions. Fossil discoveries in the Na Duong Depression provide evidence of a once-lush tropical ecosystem and show how mammals migrated between continents.

With mineral-rich soils, the region's geology supports the cultivation of various fruits, including custard apples and star anise. The impressive limestone massifs, such as the Bac Son Massif, even preserve traces of Vietnam's earliest human inhabitants, making Lang Son an important site for archaeological research.

Lang Son is in international exchange with partners in China, ASEAN and Europe and has signed cooperation agreements to develop interregional tours. The province aims to make companies more competitive through training and digital transformation in tourism. These comprehensive efforts have resulted in Lang Son establishing itself as a new, vibrant part of the national tourism map.
