BVB women: Preparation for the new season with exciting test matches!
The BVB women successfully completed the 2024/25 season after playing in the Westphalia Cup final. They are now taking a well-deserved summer break while preparations for next season are already in full swing. The dates for the 2025/26 season preparation were set in order to optimally prepare the players for the challenges ahead.
The opening event of the new season will take place on July 8th at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. The team, coaches and supervisors will gather there. Performance diagnostics begin on the same day, followed by the first training session on the pitch on July 9th. This year the team will be under the leadership of new coach Markus Högner, who will take over responsibility from Thomas Sulewski. In addition, the training facility of the BVB Evonik Football Academy will be relocated to Hoeschpark.
Test matches and training camps
Several test matches have already been planned for preparation. The first will take place on July 12th in Dortmund against SC Heerenveen, with kick-off at 2 p.m. A week later, on July 20th at 11 a.m., there will be a test match against a regional league team as part of Hertha BSC's season opener. On July 26th at 3 p.m. BVB Cerezo will challenge Osaka in Dortmund.
There will be a short-term training camp in Liechtenstein at the beginning of August. Here the team will take part in an international tournament on August 2nd and 3rd, in which they will face SCR Altach, FC Winterthur and FC Rapperswil-Jona. A five-day training camp in Austria from August 5th should also contribute to preparation.
Start of the season and DFB Cup
The official BVB season opening is scheduled for August 10th, which will also include a friendly match for the BVB women, the opponent of which has yet to be announced. The first competitive game of the season in the first round of the DFB Cup is scheduled for August 17th. In addition, the BVB women qualified for the DFB Cup for the first time as Westphalia Cup winners. The start of the season in the Regionalliga West is scheduled for August 24th.
In addition to the overall summer planning, BVB has also set a trip to Asia in 2024. This trip is planned for the period from July 19th to 25th, 2024, which will include a game in the “EuroJapan Cup” against Cerezo Osaka on July 24th. Former BVB player Shinji Kagawa, who plays for Cerezo Osaka, will be under contract until the end of January 2025. Before that, the team will start training at the Hohenbuschei training center on July 3, 2024.
Several test matches are scheduled for the first phase of pre-season preparation in 2024, including a “dream game” on July 8, 2024 in Holzwickede and a test match against Erzgebirge Aue on July 17, 2024. A training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, will take place from August 1 to 9, 2024, before the season opener and another test match against Aston Villa on August 10 2024 in SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
