Frankfurt Airport is not only the largest airport in Germany, but also an international hub with a wealth of special experiences for frequent flyers. The 15th season of the Hessischer Rundfunk documentary series “Mittendrin – Frankfurt Airport” is currently running, which takes a look behind the scenes of the impressive traffic situation. In the 79th episode, which aired in April 2025, the documentary follows Kaye-Ree Eftekhari, a personal assistant in the exclusive first-class terminal.

Eftekhari has the special task of looking after first class travelers and HON Circle members of Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines. This terminal is only accessible to a select group of people, which makes the service particularly exclusive. With a friendly welcome at the main entrance, Eftekhari ensures that after security checks, their guests get into the club area, where a variety of amenities await. Here, passengers have access to a bar, a restaurant, a cigar lounge and office apartments.

Special services for VIPs

The role of Eftekhari goes far beyond a simple welcome. She organizes the check-in for the passengers and ensures that they are taken to the driver service, which accompanies them directly to the plane. Among the regular travelers is Robyn Wensky, a 36-year-old businessman from Frankfurt who appreciates the advantages of the first-class terminal. Wensky, an HON member, visits the lounge frequently, mostly when traveling to Dubai, and enjoys the personalized service the terminal offers.

The first class terminal itself has an impressive history. It opened 20 years ago and attracts several thousand passengers every year. This includes not only celebrities, state guests and board members, but also billionaires who appreciate the advantages of this special facility. Passengers in this terminal are generally frequent flyers, flying at least 150 short-haul and 30 long-haul flights annually. You are offered an upscale service with high-quality food and drinks.

A look behind the scenes

But Frankfurt Airport offers much more than the luxurious service in the first-class terminal. The current episode also discusses the logistics behind flight operations. For example, a tire on a Boeing 747 must be changed immediately after the jumbo lands. The Singapore Airlines crew is also featured; their stewardesses have been wearing the colorful sarong kebaya for 50 years. Austrian Airlines' uniforms, which have been in a distinctive red for two decades, are increased to more than 16,000 pieces every year, with each item requiring individual adjustments.

These insights not only provide a comprehensive overview of the processes that take place at Frankfurt Airport, but also illustrate why the airport occupies a key position in international travel. More than 60 million passengers are handled here in a year, making the airport one of the busiest in Europe.
