Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park: Nature Park of the Year 2025” honored!

On Friday, May 16th, the Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park was presented with the “Nature Park of the Year 2025” certificate. This award, presented at Meierhof Pöttsching, highlights the park's innovative projects and commitment to preserving regional biodiversity. The nature park is the first nature park in Burgenland to receive this honor again after 20 years. There are currently 47 nature parks in Austria, whose quality and contribution to the environment are recognized by an independent jury of experts. Six applications from three federal states were evaluated, with cooperation within the region being a crucial criterion.

At the award ceremony, the managing director of the nature park, Marlene Hrabanek-Bunyai, emphasized the important connection between the environment and responsibility. She explained that various actors are active in the nature park to preserve the landscape and the flora and fauna. Anja Haider-Wallner, the deputy governor, also emphasized the importance of cooperation in nature conservation. As part of the first summit of the Burgenland nature parks, initiated by Haider-Wallner and Hrabanek-Bunyai, topics such as biodiversity, environmental education and regional value creation were discussed.

Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park as a place to relax

The Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park, the youngest nature park in Burgenland, extends over 7,500 hectares and includes 13 communities in the Mattersburg district. It is known for its rolling hills, extensive forests and flowering orchards. These elements create ideal conditions for those seeking relaxation and nature lovers. At the same time, the park also offers a habitat for numerous rare animal and plant species, which are protected through sustainable projects.

Kurt Fischer, Mayor of Baumgarten, said he was proud of the award and emphasized the importance of cooperation and nature conservation. This positive development is also recognized by Johann Thauerböck, President of the Association of Austrian Nature Parks. He praised the biodiversity projects and the orientation of the nature park as a showcase project for nature conservation and sustainable tourism.

Integration of educational institutions

Numerous educational institutions are also involved in the nature park. There are currently 192 certified nature park schools and 108 nature park kindergartens that work together with 139 agricultural businesses to preserve the region. The themed trails and educational trails in the park allow visitors to get to know the regional flora and fauna better. The award as “Nature Park of the Year 2025” not only represents a reward for the work to date, but also motivates future projects to promote nature conservation and sustainable regional development.
