State Prize of Economic Film 2025: Thomas Dirnhofer triumphs!

On May 20, 2025, the State Prize for Economic Film was awarded in the Christoph Leitl Lounge of the Austria Chamber of Commerce. The event was opened by Mag. Markus Deutsch, Managing Director of the Film and Music Industry Association. The aim of this price is to strengthen the economic importance of economic films and to promote awareness of their influence on the Austrian film industry and the client companies. The price is awarded every two years and has been implemented since 2005.

This year Thomas Dirnhofer from Dirnhofer film production was able to prevail with his impressive work "The Fisherman’s Daughter". The film addresses the last existing sardine factory in Portugal, which produces under the Nuri brand, and shows the factory tour of this unique production facility. The jury particularly praised the sensitive storytelling and the creative implementation of the topic that deals with life on the Atlantic coast and the Portuguese mentality of the "Saudade".

In addition to the main prize, four other projects were nominated, which also earn attention:

• "The Wagrain-Kleinarl Saga" by Robert Schabus
• "not again Mary - The Wiener Nursoap" by BTTR GmbH
• "Safe am See" by Forafilm
• "The Anton makes the music" by Forafilm

A special prize for young film producers went to the project "Family Gefzele - Glasses who write your life", which was realized by Simon Elias reader and the Allinone Creative OG. The expert jury selected a total of 15 finalists from numerous submissions, which underlines the high level and the variety of contributions obtained.

Importance of the State Prize for Economic Film

The State Prize of the business film aims to strengthen competitiveness in a highly competitive industry. This award recognizes the media -friendly design and the creative use of media opportunities in business film, always taking into account the respective target groups. Economic films are considered the audiovisual business card of a company, a result of the symbiosis between business and creativity.

Participation in the competition is open to all producers and clients as long as the productions of film producers in Austria are manufactured under commercial law. The competition is organized by the Austrian film service and thus contributes to the targeted promotion of the Austrian film and creative industries.
