State Prize for Economic Film 2025: Thomas Dirnhofer triumphs!
On May 20, 2025, the State Prize for Business Film was awarded in the Christoph Leitl Lounge of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. The event was opened by Mag. Markus Deutsch, managing director of the Film and Music Industry Association. The aim of this prize is to strengthen the economic importance of business films and to promote awareness of their influence on the Austrian film industry and the commissioning companies. The prize is awarded every two years and has been implemented since 2005.
This year, Thomas Dirnhofer from Dirnhofer Filmproduktion was able to prevail with his impressive work “The fisherman’s daughter”. The film focuses on the last existing sardine factory in Portugal, which produces under the NURI brand, and shows the factory tour of this unique production facility. The jury particularly praised the sensitive storytelling and creative implementation of the theme, which deals with life on the Atlantic coast and the Portuguese “saudade” mentality.
Nominated projects and awards
In addition to the main prize, four other projects were nominated that also deserve attention:

- „NICHT WIEDER MARY – DIE WIENER PFLEGESOAP“ von BTTR GmbH
- „SICHER AM SEE“ von FORAFILM
- „DER ANTON MACHT DIE MUSIK“ von FORAFILM
A special prize for young film producers went to the project “FAMILY GEZZELE – GLASSES THAT WRITE YOUR LIFE”, which was realized by Simon Elias Leser and the allinone creative OG. The expert jury selected a total of 15 finalists from numerous submissions, which underlines the high level and diversity of the contributions received.
Importance of the State Economic Film Prize
The State Prize for Business Film aims to strengthen competitiveness in a highly competitive industry. This award recognizes media-friendly design and the creative use of media options in business films, always taking the respective target groups into account. Business films are considered a company's audiovisual business card, a result of the symbiosis between business and creativity.
Participation in the competition is open to all producers and clients as long as the productions are made by film producers authorized under commercial law in Austria. The competition is organized by the Austrian Film Service and thus contributes to the targeted promotion of the Austrian film and creative industries.
