from practical solutions for everyday problems to sophisticated electronics for luxury, here are our most popular useful travel gadgets of 2020

The modern traveler rarely leaves his home without a number of gadgets and accessories. Despite years of travel and optimizing my equipment, I still pack a healthy number of gadgets.

If I am not completely independent of the network, there are certain (usually electronic) luxury goods that I do not want to do without. I would like to take thousands of photos, listen to music, watch a film, stay in touch with my family and, above all, follow England's recent stroke collapse (a form of self-harm, I'm sure).

Therefore, the following useful travel gadgets are a mix of what I definitely do and what is on my wish list for 2020.

1. World Travel adapter kit

Almost everything on this list of useful travel devices requires a power source, be it network or USB. The Ceptics World Travel Adapter Kit is the perfect solution to the problem of packing an apparently unlimited number of cables and adapters.

2. Headphones with noise suppression

These are ideal for long trips, in which other passengers are not always as considerate as you hope for. I am not the most tolerant person (I prefer animals), so these Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones with acoustic noise suppression sound ideal.

You can put the noise suppression function louder or quieter or activate a mode at the push of a button to hear what happens around you.

The headphones have an inline microphone and a remote control to switch on calls and control other functions, and are available in two versions: Apple or Samsung/Android.

3. Powerbank + solar charger

On hikes and climbing tours I carry quite a lot of electronics with me, including two cameras and a smartphone. All of this needs juice, so a reliable power bank and a solar charger make life easier. I use a Powergorilla charger and a foldable solar charger Falcon 21 from PowerTraveller.

I used my PowerTraveller kit with a recent ascent in Argentina

Both still work at cold temperatures. The PowerGorilla can charge devices with up to 24 volts (e.g. a laptop). The solar charger is also reliable enough to charge smaller devices.

4. Steripen ultra water cleaner

I was carefree in the past (or daring) and drank the local ice water in India. Even on camping trips in Romania and Serbia, I did not hesitate to drink from dubious water sources like hardly any flowing streams. And I almost always regretted it.

5. Portable WLAN hub

As a travel writer, our life made it so much easier to have unlimited global WiFi available when you consider how many hours we have wasted to see progress bars at an unbearable pace about slow connections.

6. JBL Charge Bluetooth speaker

kia and I like to watch a good film at the end of the day, but via tinny laptop speaker or, worse, to hear a subdued smartphone is not ideal-after all, we are not a teenager in a London bus.

This wireless Bluetooth speaker from JBL was a farewell gift from colleagues when we went on our world tour in 2014, and it is first class. It is quite light and can also serve as a charging station for other mobile devices.

for 2020 there is a newly revised version of the JBL Charge 4 and a larger JBL Xtreme 2, which is equipped with integrated hooks for hanging, a strap and a built -in bottle opener! We have both.

7. Sand -free multimatte

that doesn't solve the biggest problem in the world, but it makes a day on the beach a little more comfortable. The sand -free multimatte from CGEAR uses "sand -free technology" together with a soft but durable material to offer the ultimate beach mat.

10. Portable espresso machine

okay, maybe that's not one of the most useful travel gadgets, but I still want to have one. I may not take it on all of our trips, but I can imagine putting it on one of my luxurious camping trips when I have the car and access to the facilities of the campsite (but maybe not if I get one of the seven peaks).

The Wacaco Minipresso is small enough to fit in a pocket and means that you can enjoy a simple, double or encapsulated espresso on the way - as long as you have access to hot water.

A semi -automatic piston injects small quantities of water into the coffee attachment and after a few bumps you can enjoy a "rich and strong" espresso. Sounds like bliss on a cool morning.
