Istrian Adventure: Discover Pula and its ancient treasures!

From May 3rd to 10th, 2025, CN Reisen is organizing an exciting trip through Slovenia in collaboration with Bavaria Tours. The tour includes a tour of Istria and promises to familiarize participants with the historical and cultural diversity of the region. On Monday, May 5th, a remarkable stop in Pula, Croatia is on the agenda.

Pula, located at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula, is known for its impressive ancient sights. Particularly noteworthy is the famous Pula Amphitheater, which was built under Emperor Augustus and later expanded under Emperor Vespasian. With an impressive size of 133 m × 105 m, it offers space for around 23,000 people and the facade has been preserved up to its original height of 32.5 m.

Sights in Pula

The city of Pula has much more to offer. The Arch of the Sergians, built between 29 and 27 BC. BC, as well as the Temple of Augustus, which was built between 2 BC. 14 BC and 14 AD are among the most important historical monuments in the city. Another highlight is the Archaeological Museum of Istria, which preserves the history of the region and is one of the most important archaeological research centers in Croatia.

The Archaeological Museum was founded in 1902 and houses over 10,000 artifacts from prehistoric times, antiquity and the Middle Ages. Originally housed in the Temple of Augustus, it was expanded due to numerous valuable finds. The museum symbolizes Istria's cultural identity and works closely with international research teams. The unique collections include tools, ceramics and sculptures.

Educational offerings and interactive experiences

The Archaeological Museum also offers regular research and excavation work at significant sites such as the Roman Amphitheater and Nesactium. Educational programs in the form of workshops, lectures and thematic exhibitions are also offered. A virtual tour option is also available to visitors, with interactive exhibits, including how to create Roman mosaics, bringing history to life.

The museum is part of a larger complex of historical sites in Pula, including the Amphitheater, one of the best-preserved Roman structures of its kind. Visitors can also explore the C8 Gallery and the Lapidarium in Kaštel for insights into ancient stone monuments. Although the main museum complex is currently closed for renovations, other sites remain accessible and the museum is open year-round, with extended hours in the summer.
