Motorcycle adventure: Red Rider Burgenland on the route to Jeruzalem!

On Saturday, May 20, 2025, the “Red Rider Burgenland” held its spring ride, which took participants on a picturesque motorcycle tour to Jeruzalem in Slovenia. The starting point of the tour was the village meeting in Weingraben, where Mayor Thomas Stoiber and other prominent members of the community, including Josef Woschitz, Michael Heissenberger, Josef Laschitz and Sepp Breitfellner, also met.

The program began with a breakfast together for the SPÖ before the motorcycles set off on the approximately 320-kilometer route across southern Burgenland. The route led through gently rolling landscapes with terraced vineyards and winding roads typical of the region.

Insights into Jerusalem

Jeruzalem, known as “Slovenian Tuscany”, is located about 60 kilometers east of Maribor and not far from the Croatian border. The place has a long history, dating back to the 12th century, when crusaders rested there and enjoyed the local wine. The Prlekija region, where Jeruzalem is located, is famous for its wine-growing regions, which are among the five best white wine regions in the world. Around 90% of the cultivated area is dedicated to white wines, and around 80% of the wines are consumed directly in the country.

In Jeruzalem, the local wine shop offers an impressive selection of wines, including 130 different varieties from 30 winemakers. Guided wine tastings and the sale of regional specialties are also part of the offer. The historic manor house in the region combines culinary delights with traditional Slovenian cuisine and wine culture.

Cultural highlights and leisure opportunities

The picturesque surroundings of Jeruzalem are not only interesting for wine lovers. Hiking and cycling trails crisscross the landscape, including nature reserves. The 17th-century pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Sorrows nearby is also a popular destination for visitors. The traditional pottery in Ljutomer offers workshops for ceramic lovers, while the Žuman family offers baking workshops for the regional specialties such as the Prieška Gibanica.

The wine shop and the associated Tourism Information Center (TIC) in town are open daily from April to November, while they are accessible on weekends in the winter months from December to March. Visitors are even provided with VR glasses for a comprehensive exploration of the region.

The spring trip of the “Red Rider Burgenland” not only offered the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the exquisite wines of the region, but also a first-hand insight into the culture and traditions that make Jeruzalem a unique travel destination.
