Magical sounds at Schwendisee: open-air concert with Ljoba Jenče!
On May 24, 2025, the anticipation of the upcoming events on the topic of sounds and cultural development can already be felt. The focus is on an exciting weekend that begins on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. with a concert by Ljoba Jenče and Marino Kranjac. At 9:00 p.m. the open-air concert “Lockruf am Schwendisee” invites you to linger, where the theme of luring, calling, hooting, chirping and whistling is the focus. The event is moderated by Lea Hagmann and includes a variety of contributors, including Bernhard Betschart, Agneta Stolpe and Natalie Huber.
The events during the weekend not only offer musical highlights, but also deeper insights into the world of sounds. Lectures will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., familiarizing participants with topics such as “Kulning” and “Heard in the herd.” Ljoba Jenče will present voices from Slovenia and provide insights into the film project Lockrufe. The day ends with a Talk 'n Music at 8:00 p.m., which deals with sounds and communication between humans and animals, also moderated by Lea Hagmann.
Diversity of sounds and traditions
Ljoba Jenče, who acts as a keeper of oral tradition, brings the diversity of Slovenian sounds and traditions to the stage with her music. She combines folkloric elements with modern influences and has been collecting and researching various Slovenian oral traditions and medieval epics for a wide audience since 1988. She tours internationally with up to 100 performances per year and is therefore an important cultural ambassador for Slovenia.
In addition to Ljoba Jenče, Marino Kranjac will provide the musical accompaniment for the concert, who will delight you with both his voice and various instruments, including violin and mandola. The hall opens at 7:30 p.m. so that visitors have enough time to prepare for the performances.
Course offerings for sound experience
As part of the weekend there will also be course offerings that will take place from June 27th to 29th, 2025. Here, those interested can explore topics such as yodeling traditions and kulning from Sweden or rediscover forgotten songs from Slovenia. These offerings aim to enable participants to engage more deeply with the sounds and their own voice.
For those arriving, there is comprehensive information on how to reach the event locations. However, parking spaces are not available, which is why arriving by train, bus or shuttle is recommended. Further details on arrival can be found on the website.
The entire weekend promises not only an entertaining but also an educational look into the world of sounds, where cultural diversity can be experienced.
