Mattia Storni returns: New destinations for Ticino Tourism!

Saas-Fee, Schweiz - Mattia Storni returns to Ticino in Valais after six years to accept a new challenge. From January 2026 he will take over the position of the Head of Strategy and Business Development at Ticino Tourism. The change takes place after a successful time as Head of Marketing and Communication at Saastal Tourismus AG, where he has made significant decisions since his job.

The 42-year-old leaves the Valais at the end of November 2025. In recent years, he has dealt intensively with the challenges and opportunities in tourism. The introduction of a new ticketing system and the further development of festival TV in cooperation with Swisscom is particularly remarkable. These projects not only increased the visibility of Saastal Tourism, but also exerted a lasting influence on the region.

experiences and gratitude

Storni expresses gratitude for the experiences gained in his previous position and thanks for working with his team and the partners in the region. He plans to dedicate the orderly handover of the tasks to Saas-Fee to the coming months until his change. The region experienced a change in the time when Storni worked near Saastal Tourismus. Saastal Bergbahnen AG considers the operators of the ski lifts to be essential for tourism, despite a limited profitability of these services. Studies show that ski sport in Switzerland has a slight decline, while activities such as tobogganing, hiking and snowshoeing are increasingly gaining popularity. This presents the tourism industry with new challenges that Storni will tackle in its new position.

perspectives for the future

The Hannigberg is considered a promising destination for the popular leisure activities and has the potential to be further developed. Saastal Bergbahnen AG sees the maintenance of the ski lift infrastructure as necessary in order to achieve the tourist goals. The advancing absence of functioning lifts could be seen as a step backwards for the local population, the second home owners and the numerous visitors to the Saastal region.

In view of these developments, Storni will have to set the course for a successful tourist future and develop innovative concepts in his new role in Ticino Tourism. Overall, the coming months are crucial for the strategic orientation of Ticino Tourism and the entire region.
