Mattia Storni returns: New destinations for Ticino tourism!

Mattia Storni returns to Ticino after six years in Valais to take on a new challenge. From January 2026 he will take on the position of Head of Strategy and Business Development at Ticino Tourism. The move comes after a successful time as Head of Marketing and Communications at Saastal Tourismus AG, where he has made key decisions since his employment.

The 42-year-old is leaving Valais at the end of November 2025. In recent years he has intensively dealt with the challenges and opportunities in tourism. Particularly noteworthy is the introduction of a new ticketing system and the further development of festival TV in collaboration with Swisscom. These projects have not only increased the visibility of Saastal Tourism, but have also had a lasting impact on the region.

experiences and gratitude

Storni expresses gratitude for the experience he has gained in his previous position and thanks him for the collaboration with his team and the partners in the region. He plans to devote the next few months until his move to the orderly handover of tasks in Saas-Fee.

During the time that Storni worked at Saastal Tourismus, the region experienced change. Saastal Bergbahnen AG considers the operators of the ski lifts to be essential for tourism, despite the limited profitability of these services. Research shows that skiing in Switzerland is experiencing a slight decline, while activities such as tobogganing, hiking and snowshoeing are becoming increasingly popular. This presents the tourism industry with new challenges, which Storni will address in his new position.

Perspectives for the future

The Hannigberg is considered a promising destination for popular leisure activities and has the potential to be further developed. Saastal Bergbahnen AG sees the maintenance of the ski lift infrastructure as necessary in order to achieve tourist goals. The increasing absence of functioning lifts could be seen as a step backwards for the local population, second home owners and the numerous visitors to the Saas Valley region.

In view of these developments, Storni will have to set the course for a successful tourism future and develop innovative concepts in his new role at Ticino Tourism. Overall, the coming months are crucial for the strategic direction of Ticino tourism and the entire region.
