Pure nostalgia: Special train trip to Interlaken on May 24, 2025!
The fascination of historical train trips is captivating more and more people in the Karlsruhe region. This type of travel is particularly popular in recent years, which is also reflected in the extensive offers of the Nostalgiezug trips. Sönke Windelschmidt, the head of the working group based in Mülheim an der Ruhr, explains the passion behind the trips: "We organize nostalgic train trips to bring people closer to people."
On May 24, 2025, there is a very special event: the nostalgia train will drive from Mannheim to Interlaken in Switzerland. The train journey offers the opportunity to get in Bruchsal, Karlsruhe and Offenburg. The impressive quick driving locomotive of the 103 series, which did its job in the 1970s, is pulling the train. The cars date from the 1980s and were previously used in tea, intercity or Eurocity traffic.
nostalgia trains and their fascination
The Nostalgiezug trips, which was founded in 2010, celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2025. During this time, around 200 trips were organized, in which up to 500 passengers took part per trip. The net proceeds of the trips flow directly into the preservation of historical vehicles. None other than the locomotive from the Museum of Deutsche Bahn in Koblenz is responsible for the upcoming trip to Interlaken. This special cooperation ensures that historical mobility remains alive.
The upcoming journey on May 24, 2025 is also the only nostalgia trip in the Karlsruhe region for 2025. Further trips are already being planned for the next year that will stop again in Karlsruhe. "Our members, who belong to the hard core of the working group, are mostly working in other areas, but the passion for the railway connects us," says Windelschmidt.
an unforgettable travel experience
The trip to Interlaken offers a variety of amenities. Participants can travel in comfortable cars from the 1980s, which have both compartments and large-scale cars. All cars are air -conditioned, equipped with toilets, and in the 1st grade car, catering is offered in the dining car. It is recommended to book for breakfast and dinner in advance to enjoy the culinary delights on board.
The top speed of the train is 200 km/h, and the trip leads via Basel Badischer Bahnhof, where a locomotive change is necessary due to different train protection systems. Then it continues via Sissach and the Hauenstein Basi tunnel to Interlaken Ost. The picturesque place lies between Lake Thun and the Brienzersee, surrounded by monumental mountains such as the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The event also includes an optional shipping that is already sold out due to great demand on Lake Brienz. For everyone who still does not want to do without the maritime experience, a journey on Lake Thun is alternatively offered. The price points for these trips are different and the bookings can be made both online and by phone.
The nostalgia trips are not only an exciting adventure, but also an important contribution to maintaining railway culture. The Nostalgiezug trips are passionate about preserving this tradition for future generations.
